Infection with Burkholderia mallei (Glanders), a Class II infectious disease and bacterial infectious disease, is a highly contagious disease in single hoofed animals such as horses, mules, and donkeys, and can also infect humans. Characterized by the formation of nodules, ulcers, and scars on the nasal cavity, larynx, tracheal mucosa, or skin, and the development of nodules in the lungs, lymph nodes, or other parenchymal organs. The pathogen is Pseudomonas mallei, a bacterium belonging to the genus Pseudomonas.


The pathogen of this disease is Pseudomonas mallei, which is non seasonal and can occur throughout the year. Horses are generally the most susceptible to infection, with horses aged 3-4 being the most common. Antlers have high infectivity and contagiousness. Infected horses and healthy horses can drink water in the same bucket or feed grass in the same trough, or horses raised in small and poorly ventilated stables for a long time can be transmitted to healthy horses through digestive tract or skin damage, mucosal infection. Various livestock and individuals may be infected with this disease, while human infections are mainly related to animal husbandry, and often occur in veterinarians, breeders, or butchers who have close contact with diseased horses. The main diagnostic methods used include intranasal injection of melioidosis, eyelid intradermal injection, cervical intradermal injection, and subcutaneous heat reaction.
