In 1975, formulation 74/520 was established as the first British standard for human serum proteins (excluding immunoglobulin). It was initially assigned one unit, which is 1 unit of activity for each of the 12 specific proteins present in 0.7740 milligrams of freeze-dried powder.

Due to the presence of 77.40 milligrams of powder in each 74/520 ampoule, the initial activity of each protein in each ampoule is 100 units. However, this number was later revised for the five proteins specified in the first IRP.

The current situation is the result of recalibration of certain proteins in the first British standard based on the new IRP in 1978. The current situation is as follows:

Use of materials:

Before reconstitution, no attempt should be made to weigh any part of the freeze-dried material.

Before use, 1.0 milliliter of distilled water should be added immediately to dissolve the contents of one ampoule of standard sample again. When the powder is left at room temperature, it should be easy to dissolve and produce a slightly turbid solution.

Storage instructions:

Unopened ampoules should be stored in the dark at -20 ° C or below.
