The FCLIP snap on fusion imaging device calibration tool is a computerized testing platform used to test snap on fusion imaging devices, thermal imagers, and night vision devices. FCLIP can measure several calibration parameters that determine the image shift of the fusion imager.

The design concept of FCLIP axis calibration instrument is to project the variable distance standard target onto the object side of the measured imager, and then analyze the images generated by the two imaging channels. The specific projection image is generated by a BTG broadband target generator and projected onto the object side of the measured imager by a CRI reflective collimator. Then, use the IM50 visual camera to capture images and send them to the computer. Finally, use software for image analysis.

FCLIP axis calibration instrument is a new generation testing platform that fully utilizes the achievements of modern computer technology. This measurement method greatly improves the measurement accuracy of axis deviation, shortens the measurement time, eliminates subjective errors caused by human error, and achieves the preservation of test results.

This device is considered a nearly standard final quality assessment tool or manufacturing/maintenance aid.

FCLIP is a modular system consisting of the following modules: BTG target generator, CRI760 off-axis reflective light tube, MP1913 mechanical platform, IM50 camera, BP rail, portable computer, BOR calculation program.

The CLIP axis calibration instrument can measure the following parameters:

1. Night vision channel deviation angle (the angle between the optical axis of the input optical system and the optical axis of the output optical system of the night vision channel)

2. Deviation angle of thermal imaging channel (the angle between the optical axis of the input optical system and the optical axis of the thermal imaging channel).

3. Dual channel axis calibration error (the angle between the night vision channel optical axis and the thermal imaging channel optical axis)

4. Visible light channel resolution (spatial angular frequency of the smallest distinguishable target)

5. Thermal imaging channel resolution (spatial angular frequency of the smallest distinguishable target)

6. Dual channel rotation angle difference (rotation angle of visible light channel relative to thermal imaging channel)

7. Rotation angle of visible light channel (the rotation angle of the image generated by the visible light channel relative to the image generated by the scope)

8. Rotation angle of thermal imaging channel (the rotation angle of the image generated by the thermal imaging channel relative to the image generated by the sight)

9. Axis alignment error of night vision channel (the angle between the optical axis of the night vision channel at infinity and the same optical axis when focusing on a finite distance target)

10. Axis alignment error of thermal imaging channel (the angle between the optical axis of the thermal imaging channel at infinity and the same optical axis when focusing on a finite distance target)

The FCLIP axis calibration instrument mainly consists of the following four configurations, each covering different testing capabilities.

FCLIP-A can only measure the deflection angle of two imaging channels when the target is at infinity. It is generally assumed that the focal length of the optical objective lens of the tested imager is greater than 2000mm, which can be regarded as infinity. Therefore, it can be considered that FCLIP-A can meet the testing requirements of most snap on imagers.

FCLIP-B provides the same testing capabilities as FCLIP-A, and can also measure the resolution of two imaging channels. This feature helps evaluate the imaging quality of the tested imager.

FCLIP-C provides the same testing capabilities as FCLIP-B, and can also measure image rotation deviation.

FCLIP-D provides measurement of axis deviation between two imaging channels at limited distances of targets (approximately 50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 1000m, and infinity). This limited long-range target testing is necessary when testing high-performance fusion imagers.
