◆Concept of Apo B-48

Lipoprotein is a complex composed of a certain proportion of fat and protein, mainly responsible for lipid transport in the body. Its structural surface contains apolipoprotein, which plays an important role in stabilizing lipoprotein structure, activating enzymes related to lipoprotein metabolism, and binding to lipoprotein receptors on the cell surface.

Apolipoprotein B-48 (Apo B-48: Apolipoprotein B-48) is a specific structural protein of chylomicrons (Figure 1), which can transport exogenous lipids from food and other sources to the liver and peripheral tissues. Its molecular weight is 264000 kDa and structurally shares 48% homology with the amino acid sequence of apolipoprotein B-100, which exists on lipoproteins (VLDL, LDL, and HDL) that transport endogenous lipids.

Apo B-48 is a high-quality biomarker for observing exogenous lipid transport after eating. It can be analyzed for changes in exogenous and endogenous cholesterol by detecting Apo B-48 and HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol in the same sample^1）In addition, according to reports, Apo B-48 on an empty stomach can also serve as an indicator of postprandial hyperlipidemia^2）, which is used to evaluate the chylomicron (CM) residues (CM residues) associated with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), cardiovascular disease, vascular endothelial injury, and atherosclerosis in the cardiovascular system.

Changes in plasma lipoproteins during intake of fluvastatin and omega-3 fatty acids^3）
