The Shepson research group in West Lafayette, Indiana has been involved in fundamental research on Earth's atmospheric chemistry, particularly in the areas of 10000 to 15000 meters in altitudeBasic research on photochemistry in the troposphere. Most of our research questions ultimately relate to understanding the factors that affect tropospheric ozone, which is a toxic but essential component of the lower atmosphere. Research activities include a wide range of interrelated laboratory experiments, development of analytical methods, on-site measurement activities, and supporting computer modeling activities. We actively develop new analytical methods for rapid and trace level atmospheric measurements, making quantitative atmospheric measurements possible. We use flying platforms (airplanes) to conduct research on the surfaces of the Arctic, forests, and oceans.

We use a Picarro analyzer to measure the vorticity covariance fluxes of carbon dioxide, methane, and water vapor during flight as part of our tropospheric studies. Due to the strict application requirements of this research, Picarro worked closely with me to produce a customized analyzer that meets my specifications and is suitable for my job. This instrument has been supplementedMy instrument is working. The research data collected by me using this analyzer will contribute to the publication of various articles in peer-reviewed journals.
