How does a total nitrogen detector determine total nitrogen?

1. Water sample pretreatment: When measuring total nitrogen in surface water, the total nitrogen analyzer generally needs to place the collected water sample in a polyethylene bottle, add concentrated sulfuric acid as a fixative, adjust the pH value to 1~2,4, and store it in the refrigerator.

2. Sample collection and preservation: Collect samples according to relevant regulations. The collected samples are stored in polyethylene bottles or hard glass bottles. Adjust the pH to 1-2 using concentrated sulfuric acid (H2SO4=1.84g/ml). They can be stored at room temperature for 7 days. It can be stored in polyethylene bottles and frozen at -20 degrees for one month.

3. Sample preparation: Take an appropriate amount of sample and adjust the pH value to 5-9 with sodium hydroxide solution (NaOH=20g/L) or sulfuric acid solution (1+35).

4. Interference and elimination:

When the iodine ion content is greater than 2.2 times the total nitrogen and the bromide ion content is greater than 3.4 times the total nitrogen, it will interfere with the measurement. Hexavalent chromium ions and trivalent iron ions in water samples interfere with the determination, which can be eliminated by adding 1-2ml of 5% hydroxylamine hydrochloride solution.
