The polarizing beam splitter cube on this page is composed of two right angled prisms, with a dielectric film coated on the slope where the right angled prisms intersect. This film layer reflects s-polarized light and transmits p-polarized light.

To obtain high-purity polarized light, a transmitted beam can be used because its extinction ratio is 1000:1 (T)P:TS)The extinction ratio of the reflected beam is only about 20:1 to 100:1, depending on the beam splitter. All surfaces of the cube have broadband anti reflection coatings, which can minimize the losses caused by reflection. The dielectric spectroscopic film is coated on the oblique edge of one of the prisms that make up the cube. Then use adhesive to bond the two prisms together (as shown in Figure 1.1). Light can achieve the required 50:50 extinction ratio when incident from any surface. The top of the cube is engraved with a possible direction of light propagation. Each beam splitter cube is bonded with epoxy resin inside the cage cube and cannot be removed from the mounting seat.
