TMCOptical Experimenttable63-6090S
CleanBench is our next-generation industry standard 63 series experimental bench. TMC's isolation experimentThe platform hasThe industry-leading performance makes it an ideal choice for various applications, including AFM, confocal microscopy, in vitro fertilization, patch clamp, interferometry, and metrology. CleanBench uses TMC's Gimbal Piston isolator and a tabletop with enhanced performance and functionality.
Advantages of CleanBench
*Specially designed new countertop (under application)combined withTMCCleanTopThe optimal characteristics of the steel honeycomb top and our ultra hard, damping, and layered platform design.
Higher stability,Especially suitable for small-sized workbenches. The thin high-density top reduces the overall floating center of mass, providing high stability even for payloads that are heavy on top and light on the bottom.
Guided threaded lead,Used to align screws with threaded holes. The "inclined" shape simplifies the engagement of the first thread.
By minimizing the thickness of the countertop, ergonomic design has been optimized for sitting users. Other designs either provide clumsy separation of knees and elbowsA 100mm, 4-inch thick top, or a 50mm, 2-inch thick honeycomb top that sacrifices basic mass, does not have enough mass to achieve effective vibration isolation, especially for small-sized workbenches.
Gimbal Piston isolator
allCleanBench workbenches are equipped with TMC's Gimbal Piston air isolators as standard. In parallel testing, the performance of Gimbal Pistons has consistently outperformed other air isolators. It has excellent low-frequency isolation performance on all axes, and can maintain its performance specifications even at extremely low input excitation levels. The proprietary vibration reduction technology enables Gimbal Piston to stabilize heavy and light payloads, and quickly eliminate interference from the isolation table.
advantage
●fromVertical and horizontal isolation starting from 2 Hz
●inVibration reduced by over 95% at 10 Hz
●Almost frictionless, avoiding the transition from rolling friction to static friction
●Adjust horizontal displacement by acting as a universal joint
Even at low input levels,Gimbal Piston ® Air isolators can also provide excellent isolation performance in all directions. It has a slight damping characteristic, high responsiveness to typical low amplitude ground vibrations, and can achieve excellent vibration reduction effects for severe transient disturbances such as sudden load changes or roof impacts. The results show thatThe Gimbal Piston isolator provides exceptional isolation, eliminating any severe interference in just a few seconds. It can also stabilize an isolation system with a relatively high center of gravity without affecting the isolation effect.
Low amplitude input response
The biggest challenge encountered in designing effective isolators is to maintain good performance under typical low vibration amplitude inputs of surrounding building ground vibrations. The specification of the isolator is usually based on measurements taken by placing the isolator on a "vibration table" with a very high amplitude input level. This type of test with an input amplitude of approximately millimeters can lead to unrealistic and misleading estimates of performance, as the results do not reflect actual performance in use.
The unique feature of the Gimbal Piston isolator design is that it can maintain its specified resonance frequency and high level of attenuation even in the quietest and most realistic ground environment. This performance is linearly related to such low amplitudes because the design has almost no friction, thus avoiding the transition from rolling friction to static friction.
All other systems we tested at typical ground vibration levels either had higher resonance frequencies than claimed or had significantly increased transmission through isolator brackets.
We emphasize the importance of performance specifications at low input levels, as we have repeatedly observed in our own testing and many used devices that better performance is easier to achieve at larger amplitudes and higher frequencies.
Horizontal and vertical inputs
Our innovative isolator can act as a universal joint, allowing the thin-walled rolling sealing membrane to adapt to horizontal displacement. The Gimbal Piston isolator does not use a cable type pendulum suspension, but instead places the load on a separate top plate with a rigid rod that extends downward into the main piston shaft. The bottom of the pole has a spherical end supported on a hard, flat base. Due to the very slight shaking of the ball on the base (without sliding or rolling), the inherent flexible coupling can bend horizontally in the isolator. Even if the input displacement is in the micro rangeUnder inchesHorizontally, this method is also very effective because static friction is almost the same as rolling friction. Horizontal motion is only converted into the usual vertical membrane bending, butnoSame phase: one side of the piston is facing upwards, the otherLateral downward, moving in a universal joint style.
Limitations of other types of isolators
Thick walled rubber membrane. Most commercial isolators use inexpensive thick walled rubber diaphragms in the piston to achieve vertical isolation. Due to the relative nature of these componentsnoFlexibility, low amplitude vibration isolationIt may not be ideal. Although this system feels relatively "soft" by hand, for typical low-level ground vibrations, rubber acts more like a rigid coupling rather than a flexible isolator.
Sealed pneumatic isolator (passive). The sealed air isolator will not automatically adjust according to load changes. The main limitation of this system is that they are too hard to effectively isolate vibrations. For example, a realA passive isolator with a resonant frequency of 1.5 Hz will drift vertically by several inches when there are small changes in load, temperature, or pressure, and requires continuous manual adjustment. Therefore, the actual sealed isolator does not have the low resonance frequency of this design.
Bearing skateboard. In theory, the bearing slider can achieve horizontal vibration isolation through its decoupling effect. In fact, to make this design work at low amplitudes, hardened bearings with small tolerances and precision grinding are required. The existing commercial version cannot overcome the static friction force at low amplitudes to make the bearing roll. In addition, all of these systems are initially difficult to align and can easily deviate from the calibration range.
Self made assembly. Self made vibration isolation systems - typically steel or granite plates placed on rubber pads, tennis balls, or airbags - can only work when interference vibration frequencies are high and minimal isolation is required. Although all isolators use the principle of placing mass on damping springs, their performance is mainly distinguished by spring stiffness: the harder the spring, the higher the resonance frequency. Therefore, homemade solutions are limited by their high resonance frequency.
haveGimbal Piston with a vertical resonance frequency of 1.5 Hz ™ The isolator starts isolating at 2 Hz and can reduce vibration by over 95% at 10 Hz. The tennis ball under the steel plate with a resonance frequency of 7 Hz begins to isolate vibration above 10 Hz and reduces vibration by 90% at 30 Hz. However, most building floors exhibit the highest vibration displacement between 5 and 30 Hz, so amplifying the environmental frequency between 5 and 10 Hz with a tennis ball or rubber pad actually exacerbates the problem.

Thin walled rolling membrane-A component of the universal joint piston, the thin-walled, polyester reinforced, rolling diaphragm air seal is only 0.020 inches (0.5 millimeters) thick and very flexible. They will not harden the spring like thicker rubber membranes.
Aluminum height control valve-All systems are equipped with sturdy aluminum height control valves. Almost indestructible, they can be adjusted with fingers without the need for tools. Structural dampingThe speed at which resonance attenuation occurs in the table is determined. A simple method to measure damping is to strike the table with a hammer and measure the attenuation using an accelerometer and oscilloscope or spectrum analyzer. The resonance peak height in the "compliance curve" can also measure damping.
ComplianceIt is an equivalent measurement of the dynamic stiffness of the tabletop. Data is obtained by inputting the measured force into the table using a calibrated hammer and measuring the resulting acceleration (or displacement) using an accelerometer. Compliance is the ratio of displacement to force, expressed as a function of frequency.
