Distillation tower is the core equipment for separation and purification in industries such as chemical, petrochemical, and pharmaceutical. There are various ways to classify its types, mainly from the perspectives of internal structure, operation mode, and application field.
1、 Classified by internal components of the tower
This is a commonly used and important classification method that directly determines the separation efficiency, processing capacity, and operational characteristics of the tower.
1. Plate tower
There are multiple layers of trays inside the tower, and gas-liquid phases undergo graded contact mass transfer on the trays. Like layers of "sieves", steam passes through from bottom to top, and liquid flows from top to bottom, exchanging heat and mass on each tray.
Bubble Tower:
Structure: Each tray is equipped with multiple bubble caps (like an inverted cup), and steam rises through the riser and then returns downwards through the gaps in the bubble caps to disperse into bubbles and enter the liquid layer.
Advantages: High operational flexibility, able to maintain stable liquid seal even at low gas speeds, and stable efficiency.
Disadvantages: Complex structure, high cost, high resistance, and large liquid level drop.
Application: It was widely used in the early days and is now mostly replaced by other tower types, but it is still used in situations that require great operational flexibility.
Sieve tray tower:
Structure: There are a large number of uniform small holes (sieve holes) on the tray. Steam directly passes through the sieve holes and undergoes mass transfer through bubbling in the liquid layer on the tray.
Advantages: Simple structure, low cost, low resistance, and high efficiency.
Disadvantages: Low operational flexibility, easy clogging of sieve holes, and unsuitable for handling materials that are prone to coking and have solids.
