The series resonance test device is a key equipment for conducting AC withstand voltage tests on high-voltage electrical equipment in the power system. It is particularly suitable for test objects with large capacitance and high test voltage, such as long-distance power cables, GIS (gas insulated switchgear), power transformers, generators, etc.
Compared to traditional test transformers, series resonant devices have significant advantages such as smaller required power capacity, lighter equipment weight, better output waveform, and no occurrence of overvoltage. Below, we will provide a detailed introduction from the aspects of principle, composition, working process, and purpose.
Main features and advantages:
Lightweight equipment: Due to the use of resonant boost and low power requirements, the entire equipment weighs much less than traditional power frequency testing equipment, making it easy to transport on site.
High safety: Once the test sample breaks down and the resonance condition is disrupted (circuit detuning), the high voltage immediately drops and the arc instantly extinguishes, without expanding the fault point or generating overvoltage that threatens insulation.
Pure waveform: The resonant circuit itself has good filtering effect, which can filter out high-order harmonics and obtain pure sine wave voltage at both ends of the test sample.
Less destructive: Due to the relatively gentle energy exchange during the boosting process, the destructive effect on good insulation is much smaller than that of impulse voltage or non resonant power frequency tests.
