The NeuralGlider Inserter neural implant ultrasonic thruster reduces the force required to penetrate the surface of the brain by applying micrometer level ultrasonic vibrations during the implantation of neural electrodes. The NeuralGlider Inserter has been tested on various neural implants in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo. The reduced insertion force helps to implant slowly (0.1 mm/s) accurately, while minimizing displacement/indentation of the cortical surface and protecting the integrity of the underlying neural tissue.
