This product is used to detect the sensitivity of clinically important aerobic gram-negative bacteria to antibiotic drugs.

【 Inspection Principle 】 Vitek ® The AST drug susceptibility card of System 2 is an automated testing method based on MIC method (reports by Maclowry, Marsh, and Gerlach). The AST drug susceptibility card is a mini and simplified version for determining the minimum inhibitory concentration using the double microdilution method.

Each AST drug susceptibility card contains a control well containing only microbial culture medium. The remaining micropores contain a predetermined amount of specific culture medium and antibiotics. Before using the test bacterial suspension to hydrate the antibiotic containing culture medium in the drug sensitive card, dilute the bacterial suspension with 0.45% saline solution to the standard concentration. Fill and seal the drug susceptibility card, then load it onto the instrument incubator for automatic operation (VITEK) ® 2 60 or Vitek ® 2 XL fully automatic microbiological analysis system) or manually operated (VITEK 2 Compact fully automatic microbiological analysis system).

The instrument monitors the growth of bacteria in each well within a specified time frame (up to 24 hours for bacteria and 36 hours for yeast). After the incubation period, obtain the MIC values (or test results) of each antibacterial agent on the drug susceptibility card.


Limitations of Inspection Methods

Before reporting the test results of the following antibiotic/bacterial combinations, please verify the results using other methods: 

Amikacin: Acinetobacter baumannii 

Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid: Propionibacterium genus 

Cefotaxime: Bordetella bronchiolitis 

Imipenem: Serratia marcescens

Piperacillin/Tazobactam: Serratia marcescens

When the test results of the following antibiotic/bacterial combinations obtained are mediation or resistance, other methods should be used before reporting the results: 

Amoxicillin/clavulanic acid: certain species of Proteobacteria

When the test results of the following antibiotic/bacterial combinations obtained are resistant, alternative test methods should be performed before reporting the results: 

Imipenem: Aeromonas genus 

Piperacillin/Tazobactam: Pseudomonas aeruginosa

Due to the absence of drug-resistant strains in comparative experiments, the ability of AST cards to detect the following combinations of drug resistance is still unclear:

Tigecycline: Citrobacter freusei, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Serratia marcescens
