IFM Yifu Gate Pressure Sensor PN7270 Communication Interface IO Link
The IO Link communication interface of the Yifumen PN7270 is its core function as an intelligent sensor, not simply an "additional option", but deeply integrated into the hardware layer. Through this interface, PN7270 is upgraded from a traditional signal generator to an automated component that can interact bidirectionally.
The following is a detailed technical introduction to the PN7270 IO Link communication interface:
1、 Basic communication specifications
Standard version: IO Link 1.1 (backward compatible with 1.0).
Communication speed: COM2 (38.4 kbps, commonly known as "fast mode").
Port type: Class A port.
This means that in non communication state, this pin can be used as a standard switch input/output; When IO Link communication is activated, it automatically switches to data transfer mode.
Physical layer: Based on standard 3-wire unshielded cables (L+, L -, C/Q), with a maximum transmission distance of 20 meters.
2、 Process data (cyclic data)
When the sensor is in IO Link operation mode, it periodically sends data to the upper computer (PLC/master station).
Process data length: 16 bits.
Data format:
12 digits higher: current pressure value (digital quantity, with much higher resolution than analog quantity).
Low 4 bits: switch status bits (OUT1 status, OUT2 status, alarm bit, diagnostic bit).
Advantages: You no longer need to use analog input modules for AD conversion, and can directly obtain the true pressure value through the fieldbus without any accuracy loss. Additionally, you can simultaneously obtain the on/off status of two switch signals.
3、 Parameter data (non cyclic data)
This is the core value of IO Link intelligence. You can remotely read and write internal registers of sensors without stopping device operation or connecting programming cables.
1. Parameters that can be remotely written:
Switch points SP1/rP1, SP2/rP2.
Output logic (normally open/normally closed, PNP/NPN).
The starting value and full point value of the analog quantity (pressure value corresponding to 4mA/20mA).
Display settings (damping coefficient, display direction, backlight color threshold).
User password.
2. Remote readable diagnostic data (non periodic):
Peak pressure: The highest pressure value recorded since the sensor was powered on.
Pressure valley value: the lowest pressure value recorded since power on.
Run time counter: The accumulated number of hours the sensor is powered on.
Temperature peak: The highest ambient temperature experienced by electronic components.
4、 Data Storage and Device Replacement (IODD)
IODD file: PN7270 has an independent IODD (IO Device Description File). The main station identifies sensors and correctly parses data by parsing the file.
Data storage mechanism:
When you activate the "data storage" function in the PLC or IO Link master station, all current parameters of the sensor will be automatically saved in the non-volatile memory of the master station.
Key advantage: If the sensor fails, replace it with a new PN7270. The main station will automatically detect the new hardware and download the saved parameter set to the new sensor. No need for manual resetting of switch points with buttons on site, achieving second level replacement and greatly reducing downtime.

5、 Specific wiring and activation
Pin definition:
Pin 1: L+(positive power supply)
Pin 3: L - (negative power supply)
Pin 4: C/Q (communication line/switch output) - This pin corresponds to OUT1.
Pin 2: Unused (digital output) or OUT2- When entering IO Link mode, OUT2 can still be used as an independent switch output or as an additional diagnostic output.
Activation condition: Connect PN7270 to a master port that complies with IO Link standards. The main station sends a wake-up pulse, and the sensor automatically recognizes and switches the communication rate, establishing a switch from SIO (Standard Input Output) mode to IO Link mode.
6、 Typical application value
Preventive maintenance:
Regularly read the "pressure peak" register of PN7270 through PLC.
If a hydraulic system is found to have a peak pressure of 120 bar every time it is started, while the normal working pressure is only 35 bar (sensor range of 40 bar), although the sensor is not damaged, it has exposed the serious water hammer effect in the system. This provides precise basis for equipment maintenance.
Quick formula switching:
In the food and beverage industry, filling bottles of different capacities requires different filling pressures.
Through the upper computer screen, the operator selects the "500ml bottle" formula. The PLC automatically remotely changes the switch point SP1 of PN7270 to 2.5 bar through IO Link. No need to manually climb the ladder to the top of the filling machine to operate the sensor.
Asset Management:
Read the serial number, hardware version, and firmware version of the sensor to achieve a digital ledger of equipment assets.
