Propionine aminotransferase mainly exists in the cytoplasm of liver cells, with intracellular concentrations 1000-3000 times higher than those in serum. As long as 1% of liver cells are damaged, serum enzymes can be doubled. Therefore, alanine aminotransferase is recommended by the World Health Organization as the most sensitive indicator for detecting liver function impairment.
