Spring loaded energy storage devices use the compression energy of springs to store energy. They have a simple structure and are more sensitive to reactions than gravity based devices, but their volume is smaller and they are generally used in small capacity, low-pressure systems.

Energy storage devices can be divided into three categories: gravity loaded, spring loaded, and gas loaded.
1. Gravity loading type
Gravity loaded energy storage devices utilize the potential energy of heavy objects to store energy and are an ancient type of energy storage device. It can provide large capacity, constant pressure liquids, but its size is large and its response is slow. This type of accumulator is only used for fixed heavy-duty hydraulic equipment.
2. Spring loaded type
Spring loaded energy storage devices utilize the compression energy of springs to store energy. They have a simple structure and are more sensitive to reactions than gravity based devices, but have a smaller volume and are generally used in small capacity, low-pressure systems.
3. Gas loaded type
Gravity and spring type energy storage devices have limitations in application. These two types of energy storage devices are rarely used, and gas loaded energy storage devices are widely used.

For example, a bladder type inflatable accumulator developed using the compressibility of gas (nitrogen) is a device for accumulating hydraulic oil. The bladder type accumulator consists of an oil part and a gas part with an airtight seal, and the oil around the bladder is connected to the oil circuit.
When the pressure rises, the oil enters the accumulator and the gas is compressed until the system pipeline pressure no longer rises; When the pressure in the pipeline decreases, compressed air expands and hydraulic oil flows into the circuit, thereby slowing down the decrease in pipeline pressure.
