An accumulator is an energy storage device in hydraulic and pneumatic systems. It converts the energy in the system into compression energy or potential energy at the appropriate time and stores it. When the system needs it, it converts the compression energy or potential energy into hydraulic or pneumatic energy and releases it to replenish the system. When the system experiences an instantaneous increase in pressure, it can absorb this energy. Ensure that the pressure of the entire system is normal!

The types of energy storage devices are mainly divided into spring type and inflatable type.
Working principle of accumulator:
Accumulators are commonly used auxiliary devices in hydraulic systems, mainly used to store and release pressure energy. They can also be used as devices to absorb and eliminate pressure pulsation. There are many types of accumulators, and diaphragm type accumulators have the characteristics of small volume, light weight, and fast response compared to piston type and skin type accumulators. Therefore, they are widely used. With the development of industry and the increase of working frequency, the requirements for diaphragm type accumulators are becoming increasingly high, so accumulators are also prone to failure due to faults.
Working Principle:

The function of the accumulator
As an auxiliary power source
Some hydraulic system actuators operate intermittently, with a short total working time. Some hydraulic system actuators, although not intermittent, have significant speed differences within a working cycle (or stroke). After installing an accumulator in this system, a smaller pump can be used to reduce the power of the main transmission, making the entire hydraulic system smaller in size, lighter in weight, and cheaper in price.
As an emergency power source
For certain systems, it is required that in the event of a pump failure or power outage (sudden interruption of oil supply to the actuator), the actuator should continue to perform the necessary actions. For safety reasons, the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder must be retracted into the cylinder. In this situation, an appropriate capacity accumulator is needed as an emergency power source.
Supplement leakage and maintain constant pressure
For systems where the actuator remains inactive for a long time and needs to maintain a constant pressure, an accumulator can be used to compensate for leaks and keep the pressure constant.
Absorb hydraulic shock
Due to sudden changes in the direction of the directional valve, sudden stopping of the hydraulic pump, sudden cessation of the movement of the actuator, and even the need for emergency braking of the actuator, the flow of liquid in the pipeline will undergo rapid changes, resulting in impact pressure (oil hammer). Although there are safety valves in the system, it is still inevitable to experience short-term pressure surges and impacts. This kind of impact pressure often causes malfunction or even damage to instruments, components, and sealing devices in the system, or pipeline rupture. In addition, it can also cause significant vibration in the system. If an accumulator is installed before the control valve or hydraulic cylinder impact source, it can absorb and mitigate this impact.
Absorb pulsation and reduce noise
The pulsating flow rate of the pump can cause pressure pulsation, resulting in uneven movement speed of the actuator, vibration, noise, etc. Parallel connection of a responsive and low inertia accumulator at the outlet of the pump can absorb fluctuations in flow and pressure, reducing noise
