As an auxiliary power source
Some hydraulic system actuators operate intermittently, with a short total working time. Some hydraulic system actuators, although not intermittent, have significant speed differences within a working cycle (or stroke). After installing an accumulator in this system, a smaller excavator breaker can be used to reduce the power of the main transmission, making the entire hydraulic system smaller in size, lighter in weight, and cheaper in price.
As an emergency power source
For certain systems, it is required that when the excavator breaker fails or experiences a power outage (sudden interruption of oil supply to the actuator), the actuator should continue to perform necessary actions. For safety reasons, the piston rod of the hydraulic cylinder must be retracted into the cylinder. In this situation, an appropriate capacity accumulator is needed as an emergency power source.
For systems where the actuator remains inactive for a long time and needs to maintain a constant pressure, an accumulator can be used to compensate for the leakage and maintain a constant pressure.

Absorbing hydraulic shock: Due to sudden changes in direction of the directional valve, sudden stopping of the hydraulic breaker, sudden cessation of the movement of the actuator, and even the need for emergency braking of the actuator, the flow of liquid in the pipeline will undergo rapid changes, resulting in impact pressure (oil shock). Although there are safety valves in the system, it is still inevitable to experience short-term pressure surges and impacts. This kind of impact pressure often causes malfunctions or even damage to instruments, breaker fittings, and sealing devices in the system, or pipeline rupture. In addition, it can also cause significant vibrations in the system. If an accumulator is installed before the foot valve or hydraulic cylinder impact source of the crushing hammer, it can absorb and mitigate this impact.
Absorb pulsation and reduce noise
The pulsating flow rate of the pump can cause pressure pulsation, resulting in uneven movement speed of the actuator, vibration, noise, etc. Parallel connection of a responsive and low inertia accumulator at the outlet of the pump can absorb flow and pressure pulsations and reduce noise.
