At present, there are still some chaos in the seed market. Some small and medium-sized enterprises, due to their meager profits, take risks and engage in illegal production, passing off inferior products as good ones. So conducting seed testing is of great significance. This approach can also effectively analyze, identify, and evaluate the quality, batch, and utilization value of seeds. When the laser energy is greater than the breakdown threshold energy of the sample, plasma is formed on the surface of the sample. The sample materials excited by laser energy in these plasmas reach high-energy states and rapidly migrate back to low-energy states, emitting emission spectra with information about the types and contents of sample elements. These emission spectral signals are collected by an intelligent signal collection system and transmitted to a spectrometer for spectral analysis, and then detected by a spectral signal detector to obtain elemental information. The system has been applied in various fields such as soil and plant sample detection, heavy metal pollution detection, measurement and identification of traditional Chinese medicine elements, germplasm resource detection and identification, gemstone analysis and identification, mineral analysis, etc.

Dormant seeds require vitality testing to predict their germination ability, and the importance of seed vitality for agricultural production is self-evident. The vitality of seeds is most vigorous during physiological maturity, and natural irreversible seed aging occurs with prolonged storage time, resulting in a gradual decrease in seed vitality. Therefore, timely grading and screening of seed vitality before planting is of great significance.
Taking morning glory seeds as an example, high-temperature and high humidity aging treatments were carried out, and measurements were taken for seeds under different conditions. Establishing a predictive model between laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy and seed vitality can enable timely grading and screening of seed vitality before sowing.
