The air conditioning compressor turbine measurement workstation provides wear monitoring and communication with three types of machining tools simultaneously. The producers of air conditioning compressors all have the same problem: tool wear is the main cause of errors in machining turbine scroll parts on machining centers. Because the errors caused by tool wear are gradually formed, it is difficult to manually measure the gap between two workstations to determine the correction of machine tool processing in advance. Only after the parts are offline and non conformities are found, can the machine tool start to correct them.
Adding to the complexity of the aforementioned issues is the fact that there are two turbine components of different sizes, and with the introduction of new units, a family member of the third size quickly joined in. According to the order, three types of machine tools may need to be used simultaneously to process the same or different sizes of turbine parts, so the measurement problem will not only require accuracy, but also require the ability to measure three types of sizes simultaneously.

Provides wear monitoring and communication with three types of machining tools simultaneously. The measurement system consists of a wear-resistant and convenient workbench, manual fixtures, and a series of pneumatic probes and inductive LVDTs. The data collected by these probes is sent to a computer - Edmunds CAG microprocessor.
At the machining station, the machine works like this: using pre programmed commands, the operator tells the CAG which machine tool's tool is used to machine which specific size. Because tool wear is gradual, compensation is based on a series of statistical analysis and testing. CAG prompts the operator when to inspect the workpiece, and the operator places the workpiece in a suitable fixture for measurement. During measurement, the workpiece comes into contact with a card head and a positioning disc with a core shaft, which work together with the measuring head to push the workpiece upwards. It is very important to use a core shaft disc for positioning, as it can ensure the repeatability and accuracy of the workpiece's positioning. In order to establish a planar benchmark, we used three balls as benchmarks, which ensured the accuracy of each machine positioning.

The operator can continue working at other workstations until a workpiece to be inspected needs to be taken out of this inspection workstation. His attention can be focused on the task at hand because he knows that CAG is monitoring the out of tolerance trend of these workpieces. The operator does not need to guess and try to adjust the deviation of the machine tool, which is automatically completed by the machine. The time for scrapping parts and loading and unloading these parts has been cancelled, and in addition, the measuring instrument can measure the dimensions of two types of workpieces at once. Workers have enough time to prepare a new fixture on the workbench for measuring the third new part.
