Nantong Hairuo Chemical Co., Ltd

SPX-1 is a WCOT stainless steel capillary column with a halogenated phthalate as the stationary phase.

characteristic

When analyzing meta xylene in para xylene, it is difficult to separate it using conventional gas chromatography even with capillary columns, as para xylene flows out before meta xylene.

Especially the analysis of trace amounts of meta xylene is considered extremely difficult. When using the SPX-1 chromatographic column, trace amounts of meta xylene flowed out before para xylene, thus achieving quantitative analysis.

A. Analysis difficulty: Separation of isomers of xylene

Background: Xylene has three isomers: ortho, meta, and para. In the petrochemical industry (such as the PX/TA industry chain), p-xylene is an important raw material for producing polyester, while m-xylene is an impurity that needs to be removed or strictly controlled.

Conventional dilemma: On most standard non-polar or polar chromatography columns, the boiling points of para xylene and meta xylene are very close, and the peak order is usually para xylene first and meta xylene second. When a large number of peaks of the main component (p-xylene) tail, its "tail" will cover a small amount of impurities (m-xylene) that follow closely behind the peak, making it difficult to accurately quantify trace amounts of m-xylene.

B. Solution for SPX-1

Changing the peak sequence: The core technology of SPX-1 lies in its unique halogenated phthalate stationary phase. This fixed phase changes the separation mechanism (possibly utilizing charge transfer or specific dipole interactions), causing the originally post peak m-xylene to flow out before p-xylene.

Quantitative advantage: In this way, trace amounts of meta xylene appear alone in the baseline stable region (before the large peak of para xylene), without the tailing interference of the large peak, allowing for accurate integration and quantification.

C. Material and Type

WCOT: Wall coated open pipe column, fixed phase coated on the inner wall of the pipe.

Stainless steel (SUS) material: stainless steel instead of fused silica may be selected because the application scenario may involve high temperature or require higher mechanical strength (for example, for online industrial analysis), or the specific coating process has better adhesion on the stainless steel surface.

3. Summary of application scenarios

SPX-1 is a typical specialized column, mainly used for:

Aromatic hydrocarbon production process control: Accurately detect the purity of para xylene products in purified terephthalic acid or polyester raw materials.

Compliant with ASTM or JIS standards: Some method standards for determining hydrocarbon impurities may specify the use of specialized columns that can alter the peak sequence.

Compared with packed columns, capillary columns exhibit high separation performance due to their lower diffusion degree and good sample permeability.

Around 1980, a fused silica capillary column coated with polyimide resin was developed.

The inert surface and flexibility of fused silica pipes enable high-performance separation and facilitate operation. To meet your various analytical needs, we offer a wide range of chromatography columns, including chemically bonded and wall coated columns.

List of capillary columns:

HR (Chemical Bonding Phase) Series

This is the main product line, with fixed phases connected by chemical bonding, high stability, and solvent washability.

Non polar/weakly polar column:

ULBON HR-1: Equivalent to 100% dimethyl polysiloxane (similar to DB-1, OV-1).

ULBON HR-52: Methylpolysiloxane containing 5% phenyl group (similar to DB-5), is a commonly used model in chromatographic analysis.

ULBON HR-17: Methylpolysiloxane containing 50% phenyl (similar to DB-17), suitable for polar compounds.

Medium polarity column:

ULBON HR-1701: Methylpolysiloxane containing 14% cyanopropyl phenyl (similar to DB-1701), commonly used in pesticide and alcohol analysis.

Polarity column:

ULBON HR-20M: Polyethylene glycol column (similar to PEG-20M, Carbowax), suitable for fatty acid methyl ester and solvent residue analysis.

ULBON HR-SS-10: may refer to a specially modified polar stationary phase (similar to SP-2330).

Special column:

ULBON HR Thermon series (600T, 3000B, HG): These are likely specialized columns for gas chromatography analyzers, commonly used for dissolved gas analysis in transformer oil or for specific component separation in petrochemicals.

WCOT (Wall Coated Open Pipe Column) Series

The fixed phase is directly coated on the pipe wall, usually used for specific applications or historical methods.

Fused silica material:

ULBON Advance DS: It may be a general-purpose column for surface deactivation.

ULBON FFAP: Polyethylene glycol column modified with nitrophthalic acid (acid modified), suitable for analyzing acidic compounds such as organic acids and phenols.

ULBON ALPhen: A specialized column that may be used for analyzing alkanes or phenols.

ULBON Xylene Master: As the name suggests, it is a specialized column specifically optimized for separating isomers of xylene.

Stainless steel material:

ULBON Kel F Oil NO * 10: Trifluorochloroethylene polymer column, corrosion-resistant, commonly used for analyzing corrosive gases or halogenated hydrocarbons.

ULBON SPX-1: Unknown, may be a specific application column.

ULBON Squalane: Squalane column, a classic non-polar stationary phase commonly used in refinery gas analysis (such as C1-C4 hydrocarbons), in accordance with ASTM standard methods.

ULBON OV-101: Equivalent to methyl silicone oil, a universal non-polar column.

ULBON: The general term for Xinhe Chemical capillary columns.

ULBON HR: specifically refers to the chemical bonding capillary column series of Xinhe Chemical. This series of stationary phases are fixed on the surface of the carrier or tube wall through chemical bonding, thus having better thermal stability and solvent washability, and longer column life.
