PAMS standard gas, also known as Photocatalytic Assessment Monitoring Stations standard gas, is a special gas mixture used for environmental air quality monitoring and atmospheric chemistry research. PAMS standard gas is mainly used to monitor photochemical pollutants, which undergo chemical reactions under sunlight and have significant impacts on air quality and human health.
Preparation of PAMS standard gas: The specific composition of PAMS standard gas may vary depending on different monitoring requirements and environmental conditions. The following are some common components of PAMS standard gas:
Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs): VOCs are one of the key components in PAMS standard gases, including various organic compounds such as aromatic hydrocarbons, alkanes, alkenes, etc. These compounds undergo complex photochemical reactions with nitrogen oxides under sunlight, generating pollutants such as ozone.
Nitrogen oxides (NOx): NOx includes nitric oxide (NO) and nitrogen dioxide (NO2), which are important precursor substances in photochemical reactions. They react with VOCs to produce ozone and other atmospheric pollutants, which have an impact on air quality.
Ozone (O3): Ozone is one of the main components of photochemical pollutants, usually represented as O3. It is a strong oxidant with complex generation and elimination processes in the atmosphere. Ozone can pose a threat to human health and the environment at high concentrations.
Nitrogen oxide (NOy): NOy includes nitrogen oxides and other oxidized nitrogen substances, such as nitrous acid, nitric acid, etc. NOy is also an important photochemical pollutant in the atmosphere, involved in the generation and elimination of ozone.
Other reaction intermediates and secondary pollutants: PAMS standard gas may also contain some reaction intermediates and secondary pollutants, such as peroxides, organic nitrates, etc. These compounds play an important role in the photochemical reaction chain. It should be noted that the specific composition of PAMS standard gas may be adjusted according to factors such as different regions, seasons, and monitoring purposes. When preparing PAMS standard gas, the concentration and proportion of each component will be ensured according to the actual situation to meet the needs of environmental air quality monitoring and atmospheric chemistry research.
The application of PAMS standard gas: PAMS standard gas plays an important role in environmental monitoring and atmospheric chemistry research. They are used to calibrate and validate air quality monitoring instruments to ensure the accuracy and reliability of monitoring data. In addition, PAMS standard gas is also used for the validation and evaluation of atmospheric chemical models, helping scientists better understand atmospheric chemical processes and optimize atmospheric pollution control strategies.
In summary, PAMS standard gas is a standard gas mixture specifically used for monitoring photochemical pollutants and studying atmospheric chemistry. Its preparation and application are of great significance for maintaining air quality and gaining a deeper understanding of atmospheric chemical processes.
Ozone (O3) has high reactivity and is an oxidant. Many studies have shown that it is harmful to the human body, materials, and crops, especially to the respiratory system. If humans are exposed to high ozone for a long time, it can cause various symptoms such as headache, fatigue, cough, and asthma; At the same time, it has adverse effects on plants, including crops. In addition, it is also one of the greenhouse gases that can contribute to climate change. Ozone is not directly emitted, but is formed by a series of photochemical reactions between nitrogen oxides (NO.) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Different VOCs contribute differently to the generation of ozone. To understand the ozone problem, we need to start from the mechanism of ozone formation. Collecting precursor concentration data in high ozone formation areas and understanding the relationship between ozone formation is an effective method to understand the mechanism of ozone formation.
The Clean Air Act Amendments passed by the US Congress in 1990 require states or localities in areas with severe odor problems to begin photochemical assessment monitoring stations (PAMS) to comprehensively monitor ozone, ozone precursors, and some oxygen-containing volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to understand the causes of high ozone levels. The US Environmental Protection Agency also formulated relevant regulations within 18 months of the implementation of the Clean Air Act as the basis for strengthening the monitoring of ozone precursors. Each state must also establish PAMS in accordance with the requirements of this regulation to monitor O3 precursors in the air and enhance understanding of NOx and VOC emission sources. Therefore, the formation of PAMS began under this law. The main purpose of PAMS for monitoring ozone and its precursors is to provide accurate and representative long-term data, so that relevant units for air pollution prevention and control can immediately and objectively grasp the air quality status, establish a complete relationship between ozone and its precursor concentration, meteorological conditions, identify the causes of ozone, and finally study feasible ozone control strategies.
LINDE (formerly SPECTRAGASES) has been providing customized ozone precursor standard gases to the US Environmental Protection Agency annually since 1999, for calibration of online VOCs monitoring devices at the Photochemical Assessment Monitoring Station (PAMS).
This series of standard gases is used for the calibration of analytical instruments in environmental atmospheric research and indoor air quality research. The high-quality VOC standard gases configured by LINDE company are traceable to NIST and guaranteed to have a stable period of 12 months.

For the 6A specification gas cylinder, the filling pressure is 1700PSI, and the cylinder valve interface is CGA180; For 2A/4A specification gas cylinders, the filling pressure is 2000PSI and the valve interface is CGA350. The recommended pressure reducing valve model is F7621.
VOC standard gas is a special commodity with a shelf life, and except for some varieties, it is usually configured after receiving an order. Considering the time required for cylinder handling, standard gas configuration, testing, document preparation, international transportation (air freight) customs clearance, and domestic transportation (land freight), the delivery period is generally within 2 months after receiving the order.
