GB/T 25042-2024
The practical value of Q-Lab
The GB/T 25042-2024 "Fiberglass Membrane Materials for Membrane Structures", which was officially released last year and implemented in May this year, is a new national recommended standard that fully replaces the original GB/T 25042-2010. It covers the entire process of membrane structure fiberglass coating materials from definition to testing methods.
In GB/T 25042-2024, artificial climate aging testing is an important part of evaluating the weather resistance of membrane materials. The standard recommends using xenon arc lamps as light sources to simulate the long-term aging effects of natural light on materials.
At the same time, referring to the testing principles and methods of standard GB/T 16422.2, further ensure the comparability and reproducibility of experimental results.
In practical applications, Q-Lab'sQ-SUNThe xenon lamp aging test chamber, with its high stability light source control system, adjustable irradiation parameters, and configurable temperature and humidity/water spray cycle function, has become one of the mature solutions for aging testing in the membrane structure industry.
Q-SUN Xenon Lamp Aging Test Chamber
By controllable simulation of environmental factors such as lighting, temperature, humidity, condensation, and rainfall, Q-SUN can help companies quickly identify potential failure risks of fiberglass film materials during long-term outdoor use, such as:
·Structural degradation of coatings or substrates (such as reduced fracture strength)
·Appearance changes such as fading, yellowing, and decreased glossiness
·Determination of Bonding Stability between Multilayer Structure Membrane Materials
Q-SUN has multiple filter options and supports simulating the full spectrum sunlight radiation environment under different atmospheric conditions. The testing process is closer to the actual exposure situation, and it also supports long-term accelerated aging to shorten the verification period.

Simulating the aging process
Quantify the changes in appearance
In addition to the Q-SUN xenon lamp aging test chamber, the QUV ultraviolet aging test machine is also a classic choice for evaluating material weather resistance. It uses fluorescent ultraviolet lamps (such as UVA-340) to simulate the most destructive shortwave ultraviolet rays in sunlight, and can be equipped with condensation, water spraying and other wet heat cycle modules to reproduce the actual service environment of morning dew and noon high temperature repeated effects.
QUV UV aging testing machine
The advantages of QUV lie in its high testing efficiency, strong operational stability, and easy replacement of consumables. It is widely used in standard testing methods and is particularly suitable for early aging signs detection of outer structures such as membrane materials, coatings, and composite materials (such as surface cracking, powdering, and dark color).
In the early stages of product development, QUV is often used to accelerate formula screening and initial screening of UV resistance performance.
As a long-term partner of Q-Lab in China, Zhanlin Instrument has provided complete aging testing solutions based on GB/T 25042-2024 for several fiberglass film manufacturers.
After completing Q-SUN xenon lamp aging or QUV ultraviolet aging tests, reliable visual indicator evaluation tools are also needed to determine whether the material undergoes color drift, fading, yellowing, and other changes. At this time, Konica Minolta CM-26dGPortable spectrophotometerIt can come in handy.
CM-26dG portable spectrophotometer
Konica MinoltaThe CM-26dG portable spectrophotometer can quickly measure color difference (Δ E), brightness (L *), and glossiness (G), and has SCI/SCE dual-mode and multi angle measurement capabilities. It is suitable for color management of films, coatings, packaging surfaces, etc. It is a key measurement bridge connecting the "aging process" and "visual perception changes".

Equipment selection determines testing efficiency
The testing method of GB/T 25042-2024 clearly points to xenon lamp light sources that are "close to natural light", which is exactly the range that Q-SUN is good at simulating. For enterprise R&D and material quality control personnel, choosing a stable, mature, adjustable and reproducible xenon lamp aging system will greatly improve the efficiency and decision-making reference value of aging testing.
Standards are being updated, materials are evolving, and testing methods must also be constantly improved.
At the Silicon Society Fiberglass Annual Conference, Zhanlin Instrument and Q-Lab teamed up to showcase new application cases of core equipment such as the Q-SUN Xenon Lamp Aging Test Chamber and QUV UV Aging Test Machine. They also demonstrated on-site solutions ranging from accelerated aging simulation, performance change evaluation, to color difference and gloss detection.
