The 3rd National Conference on Fine Chemicals achieved complete success in Xi'an

On October 12-13, the 3rd National Conference on Fine Chemicals was held in Xi'an. Academicians, experts and scholars in the industry exchanged the latest academic achievements, technological frontiers and development trends in the field of fine chemicals research at home and abroad, discussed key common issues in technological innovation of the fine chemicals industry, promoted close cooperation between industry, academia, research and application, and promoted high-quality development of China's fine chemicals industry.

Zhang Tao, an academician of the CAS Member and researcher of Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, who is mainly engaged in the research of energy chemistry and new catalytic materials, and has proposed the new concept of single atom catalysis (SAC) internationally, believes that the single atom catalysis system will deepen the research in the field of catalysis to a smaller scale, not only can understand complex heterogeneous catalytic reactions from the atomic level, but also will become a bridge between heterogeneous catalysis and homogeneous catalysis because of its catalytic performance, which has great application potential in industrial catalysis. He told reporters that single atom catalysis has been industrialized in fields such as hydrogenation and vinyl chloride synthesis, and has broad application prospects.

Wang Yuzhong, an academician of the CAE Member and a professor of Sichuan University, said that polymer materials have brought profound changes to human life because of their diverse functions and characteristics, but most polymer materials are flammable and combustible materials, so it is urgent to develop polymer materials with environmentally friendly flame retardant properties. After nearly 40 years of research and development, their team has successfully developed a halogen-free flame retardant polymer material system, as well as new flame retardant technologies and products.

As a major producer of fine chemicals, the total industrial output value of China's fine chemical industry has exceeded 6 trillion yuan in 2023. In the opinion of Zheng Yuguo, an academician of the CAE Member and director of the Academic Committee of Zhejiang University of Technology, the safety and environmental pressure in the production of fine chemicals in China is high, and it is seriously constrained by the green trade barriers of developed countries. The pressure of safety, environmental protection, and resource utilization in the fine chemical industry is fundamentally a technical issue. He said that fine chemicals have the characteristics of complex reactions, lengthy processes, and large solvent consumption. Through the integration of mild reaction conditions in biomanufacturing technology, emission reduction and consumption reduction in the production process of fine chemicals can be achieved from the process source, promoting the green and low-carbon development of fine chemicals.

At the meeting, Chen Fener, an academician of the CAE Member and a professor of Fudan University, Yuan Yingjin, an academician of the CAS Member and a professor of the School of Chemical Engineering of Tianjin University, Ma Guanghui, an academician of the CAS Member and director of the State Key Laboratory of Biochemical Engineering of the Institute of Process Engineering of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lv Jian, an academician of the CAE Member and a researcher of the Xi'an Institute of Modern Chemistry, Zhu Weihong, an academician of the CAS Member and a professor of East China University of Technology, respectively made reports on the asymmetric synthesis of cyproterone acetate based on flow chemistry, synthetic biology and its application, the controllable manufacture of uniform high added value biological microspheres, the development of fluorochemicals, and the synthesis of environmentally friendly fluorohydrocarbons.

The conference was co sponsored by the Fine Chemical Industry Professional Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society and the Editorial Department of Fine Chemical Industry. It was organized by Northwest University and Shaanxi University of Science and Technology. Peng Xiaojun, an academician of the CAS Member, a professor of Dalian University of Technology, and Professor Fan Daidi, president of the School of Chemical Engineering of Northwest University, served as the chairman of the conference.
