IBC is a power compensated calorimeter. The calorimeter consists of isothermal temperature measurement blocks, which are in contact with the battery and cover all or almost all of its surface. Each block consists of 2 layers, the bottom layer and the measurement layer. Two layers are maintained at a constant temperature through feedback control using electric heaters and Peltier elements. However, for the measurement layer (in contact with the battery surface), the power of the electric heater is recorded. The change in power in the heater can measure the heat generated or absorbed by the battery.
