During the heating and cooling process of stainless steel head heat-treated workpieces, due to the inconsistent cooling rate and time between the surface and core of the stainless steel head, a temperature difference is formed, which leads to uneven volume expansion and contraction and generates stress, namely thermal stress. Under the action of thermal stress, due to the lower initial temperature of the surface layer compared to the core, the contraction is greater than that of the core, causing the core to be stretched. When the cooling is completed, the surface layer is compressed and the core is stretched because the volume contraction of the core cannot be freely carried out at the end of the cooling process.
