market position
ship domainCore supplier of propulsion bearings for large merchant ships/warships (such as bearings with a shaft diameter of 1000mm).
defense sectorProvide transmission systems for Leopard 2 tanks and other vehicles, with high technical barriers.
bearing housing
The EF type bearing seat with heat sink is made of high-quality cast iron (EN-GJL-300) and designed specifically for heavy-duty performance. According to special arrangements, other materials can also be provided, such as ductile iron EN-GJS-400-15 or cast steel GS 45.
bearing bush
The bearing shell is supported by a spherical surface inside the bearing seat. They are composed of a supporting steel body lined with lead based RENKMetal therm 89/V6 bearing alloy. The design and manufacturing meet the highest standards required for heavy-duty engineering: even under harsh operating conditions, worry free installation and long service life can be achieved.
EF type bearings are mainly equipped with bearing shells with ordinary cylindrical holes and lubricating oil rings. The bearing can be used for self-contained oil tank operation (E.NL.) or for external oil circulation (E.ZL.).
In addition to bearings without thrust components (Q-type), there are also bearing shells with ordinary Babbitt alloy lined shoulders (B-type) used to withstand limited discontinuous axial loads; And the bearing with a built-in conical block thrust surface (... K-type) can withstand moderate axial loads. Alternatively, a conical tile thrust surface suitable only for a single rotation direction (... E-type) can be provided to withstand high axial loads.
seal
EF type bearings with floating labyrinth seals (Type 10) are used for standard applications. They are made of fiber-reinforced, highly heat-resistant material RENK plastic therm P 50, which is not easily worn. This seal meets the protection level of IP 44. Under modular systems, higher protection levels (up to IP 56) can be installed.
In order to protect machines equipped with EF type bearings from internal interference (such as vacuum or strong air circulation), EF type bearings should usually only be used with additional "machine seals". This type of seal is installed on the inside of the machine end cover, forming a sealing gap with the shaft.
RENK Hannover can provide machine sealing (made of corrosion-resistant alloy). Optionally, the airtightness of the machine seal can be improved by inserting impregnated hemp filler into the sealed standard circumferential groove.
The space between the bearing seat and the machine seal is connected to the atmosphere, so there will be no vacuum or strong air turbulence at the inner bearing seal.
fuel supply
For the case where the maximum circumferential speed of the shaft is 20 m/s, use a loose oil ring for self-lubricating. The lubricating oil delivered to the inner circumference is directly transmitted to the shaft through the loosening oil ring.
When the bearing is lubricated through the oil circulation system, the loose oil ring can be used for situations where the shaft circumferential speed is up to 26 m/s, so as not to cause damage during emergency shutdown.
Loose oil rings can also be used for ship applications. In this case, additional guide bushings will be installed inside the bearing shell.
Electrical insulation
To prevent stray currents conducted by the shaft, EF type bearings can also provide insulation versions. For this purpose, the spherical bearing support seat inside the bearing seat is electrically insulated by using a plastic shell or insulating foil firmly adhered to the bearing seat. All EF type bearing seats with "spherical insulation" are available in stock.
heat dissipation
Friction heat is usually dissipated only through radiation and convection: 'natural cooling'. According to the shaft diameter, the maximum allowable speed can reach 3600 min-1.
Due to its excellent design, EF type bearings with natural cooling function can now be widely used in various occasions.
In addition, an oil cooler installed in the oil tank (with seawater resistant finned cooling tubes) can also be used. Sizes are provided as needed. EF type bearing seats are typically suitable for connecting to oil circulation systems.
In this case, the oil level inside the bearing seat is defined by the overflow weir in the oil discharge pipe we supply.
temperature control
Two commercially available independent temperature sensors can be used for temperature control. We recommend using RENK resistance thermometer or RENK angle thermometer for direct visual control.
Oil selection
Generally, any brand mineral oil with low foam tendency and good aging resistance can be used as lubricant. The correct viscosity under each operating condition should be verified through EDP calculation. This type of calculation is carried out during the design phase. Printed copies of the calculation results can be provided as needed.

Size (millimeters)
1)For shaft tolerances, please refer to the "RENK Sliding Bearing Application Manual".
2)When non locating bearings require greater axial movement (e.g. considering thermal expansion), the distance b8 between the shaft shoulders can be increased.
3)The normal axial clearance is 0.5 mm. When the expected thrust load direction changes or there is axial impact, the dimension b13 can be further reduced by 0.3 mm.
If the positioning bearing is only used for trial operation, the size b13 can be increased by 3... 6 mm.
4)All d23 diameters are suitable for standard machine seals and are effective for each shaft diameter D. For rigid seals, dimensions are provided as needed.
Geometric tolerances shall be in accordance with DIN 31 699.
Accuracy level B 10 (radial). Accuracy level B 20 (axial); Other on-demand offerings.
General tolerance DIN 7168 mS.
