Main measurement methods and corresponding instrument types
There are mainly two standard methods corresponding to two mainstream instruments:
1. Red method vapor pressure tester (based on ASTM D323/GB/T 8017)
This is the traditional classic method and the basis for defining the "Reid vapor pressure".
Principle: Inject the cooled sample into the fuel chamber of the vapor pressure tester, and then connect it to an air chamber that has been heated to 37.8 ° C (100 ° F). Immerse the entire device in a constant temperature water bath at 37.8 ° C and oscillate until the pressure reaches equilibrium. At this point, the pressure gauge reading is the Reid vapor pressure.

Fuel chamber and air chamber: two precision metal chambers.
Constant temperature water bath: precise temperature control at 37.8 ° C ± 0.1 ° C.
Oscillatory mechanism: used to shake the measuring device and accelerate gas-liquid equilibrium.

Characteristics: Considered as an arbitration method, the results are accurate and reliable, but the operation steps are cumbersome, time-consuming, and rely on manual operation experience.
2. Automatic vapor pressure tester (based on ASTM D5191/GB/T 8017 automatic method)
This is currently the mainstream automated instrument in the laboratory, greatly improving efficiency and reproducibility.
Principle: The core is a testing chamber with an expansion ball. After injecting a small amount of sample, the instrument automatically maintains the test chamber at 37.8 ° C and calculates the vapor pressure through precise volume expansion or pressure measurement. There are various automatic techniques such as expansion method and micro method.
