During operation, torque is applied to the torque wire by testing the rotation of the worm gear pair, and the surface tension of the liquid is balanced by the platinum ring in contact with the liquid surface. When the torque of the torque wire continues to increase and the surface of the measured liquid is pulled apart, the angle at which the torque wire twists is indicated by the vernier on the dial, multiplied by the correction factor, to obtain the measured surface tension and interfacial tension values of the liquid.
