However, there are fundamental differences in the heating methods between the two. Hot press sintering uses a heating element for radiation heating, while discharge plasma sintering generates Joule heat through the current of the mold or sample. This heating method can achieve a heating rate of up to 1000 ℃/min, greatly reducing the heating time.
In addition, current can enhance powder sintering by activating one or more parallel mechanisms, such as surface oxide removal, electromigration, and electroplasticity. The application of current and high heating rate are the most typical characteristics of discharge plasma sintering technology.
