Overview
Large aperture scintillation instrument - Kepp Zonen atmospheric science measurement: LAS MKII large aperture scintillation instrument is used to measure atmospheric turbulence conditions. Its working principle is based on the scintillation phenomenon in the atmosphere. When flickering occurs, the heat flux causes a change in the atmospheric refractive index, which in turn leads to the visible flashing effect on the thermal path.

Large aperture scintillation instrument - Kepp Zonen atmospheric science measurement

The LAS MKII Large Aperture Scintillation Instrument is a device used for large-scale flux observation. The transmitting end and the receiving end are installed at two ends that are 100 m~4.5 km apart. By emitting and receiving near-infrared wavelength light, the sensible heat (H) flux is ultimately obtained. By installing the optional meteorological sensor kit, the sensible heat flux can be calculated. The kit consists of wind speed, temperature, and pressure sensors, as well as various matching plugs, and is directly installed in the LAS MkII receiver.

The light on the path is affected by changes in air density, causing a change in the refractive index of the air and resulting in a "flicker" phenomenon. Flicker can be represented as the structural parameter Cn2 of the refractive index of air, and LAS measures the integral of the intensity fluctuation (flicker) of flicker. The magnitude of fluctuations is related to the vertical transport of sensible heat (H) by turbulent eddies in the atmosphere.

The LAS MKII large aperture scintillation analyzer receiver has a digital processing device inside, which can automatically calculate all relevant parameters, such as Cn2 and sensible heat flux. By displaying real-time data on the screen, you can quickly understand the experimental status. The built-in data logger stores measurement data and results obtained over several months.

The instrument supports remote operation management. Through the digital interface, you can remotely display and fully control the operation settings of the instrument in real-time. By simulating output, you can also virtually connect the instrument to any data acquisition system. This facilitates integration with new or existing measurement networks.

大孔径闪烁仪-Kipp Zonen 大气科学测量

Main applications

Surface energy balance

Verify satellite data

Hydrology/Water Management (Shortage) - River Evaporation, Crop and Water Storage

Agriculture, forestry, plant evapotranspiration

Research on Atmospheric Turbulence

Urban heat flux

Light propagation conditions

National defense, laser guidance

Main Features

Low power consumption - single light source, more suitable for use with solar panels/battery power supply

Easy installation - more compact design, integrated data logger, display screen, and setting buttons, making transportation and installation easier (the instrument does not require disassembly and configuration of internal dip switches, only the path length needs to be set)

More suitable for use in cold regions - both the transmitter and receiver contain integrated lens heaters to prevent instrument icing or window condensation, providing good data in cold environments with sufficient power supply

Data self storage - no need to equip additional units for data storage, easy to use

No clock bias - equipped with GPS, scintillation counter to record GPS data, can synchronize with satellite timing
