KSV NIMA Brewster angle microscope

KSV NIMA Brewster Angle Microscope

The Brewster angle microscope (BAM) is capable of visualizing Langmuir monolayers or adsorption films at gas-liquid interfaces.

Combined with Langmuir channels, it can be studied:

Single molecular layer/thin film behavior

It can observe phase transitions, phase separation, domain size, shape, and stacking behavior.

Uniformity of monolayers/thin films

By combining KSV NIMA L&LB slots, it is possible to observe the compression and expansion processes under known surface pressure.

The influence of subphase conditions on membrane structure

Under different sub phase conditions such as salt concentration, pH, and temperature, the behavior and construction of monolayers/films can be observed and studied.

Monitor surface reactions

Real time tracking of surface reactions such as photochemical reactions, polymerization reactions, enzyme kinetics reactions, etc.

Monitoring and detecting surface active substances

For example, protein adsorption and nanoparticle flotation.

The Brewster angle microscope is primarily designed for studying gas-liquid interfaces, but can also be used for other interfaces such as air glass under certain conditions.

working principle

Brewster angle microscope is designed based on the principle of total reflection that does not occur at a specific incident angle when P-polarized light is incident on the air-water interface. The angle at which total reflection occurs, known as the Brewster angle, is determined by Snell's law and depends on the refractive index of the material in the system.Snell's Law:

tan α = n2 / n1

Among them, α is the Brewster angle, measured in radians. N1 is the refractive index of air (≈ 1) and n2 is the refractive index of water (≈ 1.33). The Brewster angle at the gas-liquid interface is approximately 53 °. At this angle, the image of the pure water surface is black because no light is reflected. The addition of substances to the gas-liquid interface will change the refractive index of the substance, causing a small amount of light to be reflected and displayed in the image. The regions of different brightness in the image are determined by specific molecules and the packing density of the entire sampling area.

KSV NIMA offers two different types of Brewster angle microscopes, the advanced KSV NIMA Brewster angle microscope and the compact KSV NIMASmall Brewster angle microscope.

KSV NIMA Brewster angle microscope

KSV NIMA Brewster angle microscopeRepresenting the BAM instrument of Zuixin, it has a resolution of * * and can focus and image single molecular layers in real-time without distortion. The lifting device driven by a precision motor can accurately locate and focus on the gas-liquid interface, and the accompanying automatic vertical positioning device can track changes in liquid level in real time. The active shock absorption system integrated by KSV NIMA BAM can eliminate disturbances caused by the environment (such as air conditioning and pedestrian flow). High performance cameras and specialized calibration algorithms can quantitatively measure reflectance, thereby monitoring changes in adsorption kinetics or thickness. The KSV NIMA Brewster angle microscope is equipped with a motor analysis device that can monitor the orientation information of single-layer molecules over a long range. The software provides comprehensive image analysis and processing functions. The KSV NIMA Brewster angle microscope can be used in conjunction with Langmuir troughs to control the packing density of single molecular layers and record surface pressure values. The most common recommended configurations are KSVNIMA Langmuir large tank and Langmuir Blodgett large sedimentation tank.

KSV NIMA Small Brewster Corner and KSV NIMA IndependentSmall Brewster angle microscope

KSV NIMASmall Brewster angle microscopeIndependent with KSV NIMASmall Brewster angle microscopeIt is a simple and easy-to-use entry-level non-invasive imaging tool for studying monolayers at gas-liquid interfaces. Excellent imaging quality and good lateral resolution make them ideal tools for observing membrane parameters such as the uniformity of compressed thin films, domain size, shape, and stacking behavior, while real-time observation and recording of changes in membrane structure can capture its dynamic behavior information.

KSV NIMASmall Brewster angle microscopeIndependent with KSV NIMASmall Brewster angle microscopeIt can be used in conjunction with most KSV NIMA Langmuir and Langmuir Blodgett grooves, such as medium, large, and high compression ratio grooves, to automatically obtain the relationship between imaging and time. Whether it's motor control (KSV NIMA)Small Brewster angle microscope)Or manual adjustment (KSV NIMA independent)Small Brewster angle microscope)Both instruments are easy to adjust the height of the measuring head, and for safety reasons, both instruments have a safety key interlock function to control the BAM laser.

KSV NIMA standaloneSmall Brewster angle microscopeIt can also be used in conjunction with Langmuir and LB film tanks produced by other manufacturers, as well as independent sample beakers.
