  I. Overview
The HY-5S interturn impulse withstand voltage tester is suitable for products such as motors, transformers, and electrical coils wound with enameled wire. Due to quality issues with the insulation coating layer of enameled wire, as well as damage to the insulation layer caused by careless processes such as winding, wire embedding, wire scraping, joint end shaping, insulation immersion, and assembly, the insulation strength between coil layers or turns can decrease, thereby affecting the quality and reliability of electrical equipment.
In order to improve the quality and service life of the product, it is important to ensure good insulation between the layers or turns of the enameled wire winding of the components. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct this test on the product.
According to Chinese standards such as GB14711-93 "General Requirements for Safety of Small and Medium sized Rotating Electrical Machines", GB755-87 "Basic Technical Requirements for Rotating Electrical Machines", and GB/T 22714-2008 "Specification for Interturn Insulation Test of Formed Winding of AC Low Voltage Motors", it is necessary to conduct turn to turn withstand voltage insulation tests on finished and semi-finished motor products before and after immersion painting.
The HY-5S interturn impulse withstand voltage tester adopts the pulse waveform comparison method to conduct equivalent overvoltage simulation tests on the coil windings of motors and electrical appliances using high-voltage pulses. By observing, comparing, and analyzing the waveform displayed by the instrument, the quality of the inter turn insulation of the winding can be quickly and accurately determined. It has good discrimination performance for various types of inter turn insulation faults such as inter turn short circuit, coil corona discharge, local short circuit, wiring error, and coil balance.
The electronic integration of the whole machine is relatively high, and the test waveform can be observed on the oscilloscope provided by the testing instrument. The peak voltage is directly read on the digital meter, and the Y-axis amplitude and X-axis scanning rate are continuously adjustable. The whole machine has the characteristics of high precision and low failure rate, and all performance and technical indicators have reached the advanced level in China.
This instrument is a new type of instrument that implements the GB755-87 and GB14711-93 standards, and is an important means to improve the level and reliability of motor insulation testing in China.

  2. Application scope
Can be used for inter turn and inter layer insulation strength testing of single-phase motors, three-phase small and medium-sized motors, micro motors, special motors, electric tool motors, transformers (including switch power transformers), relays, and electrical appliances containing electromagnetic wire windings.
  2、 Basic principles of testing
When a direct solid-state short circuit fault occurs in the coil, a short circuit turn will be formed, which will significantly change the inductance, capacitance, and resistance of the coil. For the weak insulation points between turns with a certain degree of insulation, there is basically no significant change in the inductance, resistance, and capacitance of the winding before reaching the voltage that causes breakdown, so it is impossible to directly observe the fault. Only when the test voltage exceeds the withstand voltage value of the weak insulation point, will it cause inter turn insulation breakdown, spark discharge, accompanied by discharge sound and ozone, and significant changes in inductance L, capacitance C, and resistance R, thereby changing the attenuation oscillation frequency and attenuation rate of the impulse test voltage wave in the winding.
The HY-5S interturn withstand voltage tester is based on the above principle and uses the "pulse waveform comparison method" to test the symmetry and balance of impedance. Pulse voltages with a certain wavefront time and specified peak values are alternately applied to the test sample and reference sample, and the difference in attenuation waveform caused by the pulse voltage between the two is used to determine the inter turn insulation fault of the motor winding. The degree of difference reflects the severity of inter turn faults in coil windings. Due to the short wavefront time and low energy of the applied high-voltage pulse, it is considered a non-destructive test.
