The fully automatic cold filter point analyzer is a precision instrument used to automatically measure the maximum temperature (i.e. cold filter point) at which petroleum products such as diesel, biodiesel, kerosene, etc. stop flowing under specified conditions. It replaces traditional manual operation and achieves full process automation of cooling, suction, detection, and judgment.
The cold filter point is the most important indicator for measuring the performance of medium distillate fuels such as diesel at low temperatures. It represents the temperature at which the fuel begins to clog the engine fuel filter at low temperatures.
Why is it so important to determine the cold filter point?
Predicting low-temperature usability: The cold filter point directly reflects the ability of diesel to pass through the fuel filter at low temperatures. When the temperature is below the cold filter point, wax crystals formed in the fuel will clog the filter, causing engine fuel supply interruption, inability to start or stall.
Guiding product grading and usage: Chinese diesel grades (such as 0 #, -10 #, -20 #, -35 #, -50 #) are classified based on their cold filter point and pour point. For example, the cold filter point requirement for No. 0 diesel is not higher than 4 ° C, which is suitable for areas with temperatures above 4 ° C.
Production and blending control: Refineries control and optimize the composition of diesel by measuring the cold filter point, such as adjusting the amount of additives (pour point depressants) added.
Trade and Quality Supervision: It is a mandatory item for diesel factory inspection, trade handover, and national quality sampling.
working principle
The instrument strictly follows international standards (such as ASTM D6371) and Chinese national standards (such as the automatic method part in GB/T 510). The core principle is to simulate the fuel supply process of the engine:
Automatic cooling: The instrument places the sample in a precisely controlled cold bath and cools it down at a specified rate (usually around 1 ° C/min).
Periodic suction: During the cooling process, the instrument automatically sucks the sample at regular temperature intervals (such as 1 ° C) or time intervals using a vacuum pump with a fixed suction force (200mm water column).
Flow monitoring: During each suction, the instrument accurately measures the time or flow rate required for a specified volume (usually 20 milliliters) of sample to flow through a filter with a standard aperture (45 microns).
Automatic determination of endpoint: When the sample flows for more than 60 seconds (or the flow rate is below a certain threshold) due to wax crystal precipitation and increased viscosity, the instrument automatically determines and records the current temperature of the cold bath, which is the cold filtration point.
Automatic report: After the test is completed, the instrument automatically prints or stores the test results and cooling curve.
