Selection of OMEGA thermocouple extension wire

The function of the thermocouple extension wire is to extend the thermoelectric electrode, which is the cold end of the moving thermocouple, and connect it with the display instrument to form a temperature measurement system. The product is mainly used in various temperature measuring devices and has been widely used in sectors such as petroleum, chemical, metallurgy, and power.

1: Generally speaking, the distance between a thermocouple and a thermometer may be several tens of meters, and the temperature at the cold end (outlet end) of the thermocouple may be different from the ambient temperature of the thermometer (even up to several tens of degrees).
If ordinary copper wires are used, according to the principle of thermocouples, there will be a temperature difference potential at the connection, which will result in measurement errors.
The problem of voltage drop in long-distance transmission wires is due to the high input impedance of the thermometer and the small transmission current caused by the temperature difference potential (millivolt level) generated by the thermocouple. The voltage drop loss on the wire is very small and generally within the error range. So there is a thermocouple transmitter that inputs thermocouple signals and outputs 4-20mA, which allows for long-distance transmission without compensating wires.


2: If an extension cable (which must match the thermocouple scale) is used, the metal material selected can generate the smallest possible temperature difference potential at the wiring point, minimizing temperature measurement errors as much as possible. That is to say, move the cold end of the thermocouple to the thermometer.

3: Precautions for laying out thermocouple extension cords near power cords

When parallel wiring thermocouple wires or compensating wires and power lines, attention must be paid to electromagnetic faults caused by power line currents. Thermocouple wires or compensating wires must use double shielding. Recommend separate strong and weak electrical wiring in cable trays
