At the outlet of the pump, siphon phenomenon often occurs due to gravity or other effects. In this case, the back pressure valve can reduce the flow and pressure fluctuations caused by siphon. For metering pumps and other devices that operate at low system pressures, excessive delivery may occur. To prevent similar issues, it is necessary to ensure that the outlet of the metering pump has a back pressure of at least 0.7 Bar, which is generally achieved by installing a back pressure valve at the outlet of the metering pump.

Main functions:
The one-way valve on the outlet pipeline is used to prevent liquid backflow, and the back pressure valve is used to maintain a constant pressure at the pump outlet.
2. Can be used as a safety valve in systems with less stringent requirements.
3. Use in conjunction with pulsation dampers to reduce the harm of water hammer to the system, minimize the peak value of flow velocity fluctuations, and protect pipelines, elbows, and joints from pressure fluctuations.

5. Ensure the stability of the water pump's output flow rate. If the flow rate of some pumps varies greatly with pressure, a back pressure valve can be installed at the pump outlet to stabilize the pump's output flow rate. In this case, the pressure of the back pressure valve is generally selected to be the actual operating pressure of the pump or slightly lower than the operating pressure of the pump.
6. In the case of unstable pressure in pipelines or equipment containers, the required pressure in the pipeline can be maintained to enable the pump to output flow normally.
7. Self flow or siphon phenomena often occur at the outlet of the pump due to gravity or other effects. The back pressure valve can reduce the flow and pressure fluctuations caused by siphon. In this case, it is generally recommended to use a pressure greater than the liquid's own pressure. To prevent self flow of liquid in a 2-meter medicine tank, a back pressure valve with a pressure greater than 0.02 MPa can be used, usually 0.1 MPa.


Working Principle:
The fluid enters from the back pressure valve inlet and is blocked by the diaphragm, causing the fluid to exert upward pressure on the diaphragm. When the pressure is high enough, the spring is compressed, and the fluid pushes up the diaphragm to form a channel, which flows out from the outlet of the back pressure valve; If the fluid pressure is not sufficient, it will form a build-up pressure, causing the inlet pressure to reach the rated pressure and lifting the diaphragm to form a passage.
The rated pressure of the back pressure valve can be adjusted, usually by adjusting the top rod of the spring to adjust the length of the spring.


The use of back pressure valve:
In the outlet pipeline, the back pressure valve should be used together with the pulsation damper to absorb the peak flow between the pump and the back pressure valve. When there is no pulsation damper, the back pressure valve will quickly open and close with each pump stroke. When there is a pulsation damper, the back pressure valve will oscillate in the half open and half closed positions, so the pulsation damper can reduce the wear rate of the back pressure valve.
For high flow pumps with long and thin outlet pipelines, the installation position of the back pressure valve should be close to the filling point to reduce the tendency of siphoning. When conveying suspended solids, a three-way (or four-way) valve with a pipe plug should be installed at the inlet of the back pressure valve to allow the pipeline to be cleaned without disassembly.
A back pressure valve is just a type of pipeline component, and can only achieve its maximum effectiveness when used in conjunction with other pipeline components such as pulsation dampers, safety valves, and shut-off valves.


Installation of safety valve:
Installation of back pressure valve:
The back pressure valve should be installed on the outlet pipeline of the pump and should be close to the pump. For safety reasons, a safety valve should be installed in the pipeline system equipped with the back pressure valve. Installing a pulsation damper or buffer between the pump outlet and the back pressure valve can help improve the performance and lifespan of the back pressure valve. At the same time, it can effectively extend the service life of the metering pump and diaphragm.


Notes:
(1). The back pressure valve can only prevent siphon when the pump generates flow. When the pump stops, liquid may leak through the valve. At this point, other valves need to be installed to prevent leakage.
(2). When the pipeline pressure exceeds 3BAR, there is no need to install a back pressure valve.
(3). It is recommended to install a filter before the back pressure valve to prevent dirt from damaging the diaphragm or valve seat.


Pressure setting of safety valve:
(1). Install a shut-off valve downstream of the safety valve on the outlet pipeline of the pump;
(2). Install a pressure gauge between the safety valve and the pump;
(3). Open all valves, start the pump, and adjust the flow rate to Z;
(4) Slowly close the shut-off valve and pay attention to the pressure gauge reading. Until fully closed (note that the pressure gauge reading during this process should not exceed the desired set pressure value;
(5). Rotate the pressure adjustment screw of the safety valve clockwise and observe the pressure gauge reading while adjusting. When the pressure gauge reading reaches the desired set pressure, open the shut-off valve and turn off the pump;
(6). Restart the pump, slowly close the shut-off valve, and observe whether the safety valve opens at the set pressure. If the deviation is significant, it is necessary to reset according to the above steps.
Pressure regulation of back pressure valve:
Install a pressure gauge on the pipeline between the pump and the back pressure valve. Open the back pressure valve to Z and open the downstream shut-off valve, start the pump, and adjust the flow rate to Z value. Turn the pressure adjustment screw of the valve clockwise and observe the pressure gauge reading while adjusting until the pressure gauge reading reaches the desired pressure value.
Each valve is labeled with a sticker with arrows indicating the installation interface. When used as a back pressure valve, the port indicated by the arrow as the "back pressure valve inlet" is used as the inlet, and the other port is used as the outlet. When the port of the "safety valve inlet" indicated by the arrow is used as the inlet and the other port is used as the outlet, it is used as a safety valve.


Notes:
1. Installation should avoid resonance, otherwise it will have a serious impact on the operation of the back pressure valve and may damage the back pressure valve, posing a danger.
2. When used together with a pulsation damper, the pulsation damper should be installed between the pump and the back pressure valve to absorb the peak flow between the pump and the back pressure valve. Reduce the wear rate of the back pressure valve.
3. Outdoor use should be equipped with protective shelters or covers.
4. Before any maintenance is carried out on the back pressure valve, the equipment should be stopped, the pressure should be released, the back pressure valve connected to the system should be closed, and it should be confirmed that there is no pressure inside the pulsation damper. During maintenance, pay attention to preventing harm to the human body caused by the transported liquid.
5. The back pressure valve has directionality. If the inlet and outlet of the back pressure valve are reversed, the back pressure will increase exponentially, posing a hazard to the system and potentially causing danger.
6. If a fault is found in the back pressure valve during operation, the system should be stopped in a timely manner or the pipeline where the back pressure valve is located should be closed, the use of the back pressure valve should be stopped, and the back pressure valve should be checked and replaced.
7. Before conducting any inspection or maintenance on the back pressure valve, the equipment should be stopped, the pressure inside the valve should be released, the valves connected to the back pressure valve and the system should be closed, and it should be confirmed that there is no pressure inside the pulsation damper. Be careful to prevent high-pressure fluid from splashing inside the valve during maintenance, which may harm the human body.
