Siemens S7-300 Design and Functionality


S7-300 can achieve innovative design of desktop CPU with space saving and modular configuration. In addition to the modules, only one DIN mounting rail is needed to secure the modules and rotate them into place.

This achieves a robust and EMC compatible design.
The on-demand backplane bus can be expanded by simply inserting additional modules and bus connectors. The S7-300 series offers a wide range of products that can be used for centralized expansion or for building distributed structures with ET 200M; Therefore, economically efficient spare parts control has been achieved.

If the automation task requires more than 8 modules, the central controller (CC) of S7-300 can be expanded using an expansion device (EU). There can be 32 modules on the central rack, with 8 expansion devices per module. The interface module (IM) can simultaneously handle communication between various racks. If the factory has a wide coverage area, CC/EU can also be installed at a longer distance from each other (10m in length).

In a single-layer structure, this can achieve a configuration of 256 I/Os, and in a multi-layer structure, it can reach 1024 I/Os. In a distributed configuration with PROFIBUS DP, there can be 65536 I/O connections (125 sites, such as ET200M connected through IM153). The slots can be addressed freely, so there is no need for slot rules.

The S7-300 module has a wide variety of types and can also be used in distributed automation solutions. The ET 200M I/O system with the same structure as S7-300 can be connected not only to PROFIBUS but also to PROFINET through the interface module.
