Under certain conditions, ammonia can be decomposed to obtain a hydrogen nitrogen mixture of 75% H2 and 25% N2:


The gas produced by this method is a good reducing protective gas, which can be widely used in the semiconductor industry, metallurgical industry, machinery industry, and other production and research departments that require a protective atmosphere.


The equipment for producing hydrogen through ammonia furnace decomposition using iron powder reduction utilizes liquid ammonia to produce protective gas, which is relatively easy to achieve in industry because:


1. Ammonia is easy to decompose: Under the action of a catalyst, ammonia can decompose when heated above 300 ℃ at atmospheric pressure, and the decomposition rate increases with the increase of temperature, making the decomposition more efficient.


2. Easy gas refining: The purity of liquid ammonia used as raw material is very high, with only a small amount of inert gas and water as volatile impurities, especially with very low oxygen content. Therefore, the mixed gas after ammonia decomposition can obtain high-purity protective gas through simple purification.


3. The raw material liquid ammonia is easy to obtain, inexpensive, and consumes relatively little raw material (2.6N m3 of mixed gas can be generated per kilogram of liquid ammonia).


2、 Hydrogen production equipment using ammonia decomposition furnace for iron powder reduction


The ammonia source comes from liquid ammonia steel cylinders or liquid ammonia storage tanks. Considering the requirements for the purity of the decomposed gas and the prevention of catalyst poisoning, high-quality or higher quality ammonia should be used.


Attention: Users must install a cylinder pressure reducing valve on the liquid ammonia cylinder, otherwise the equipment will be difficult to control and use.


When the amount of ammonia is large or the ambient temperature is low, liquid ammonia needs to be gasified through a gasifier. After being depressurized by the pressure reducing valve of the steel cylinder, the pressure of ammonia drops to around 0.05MPa (gauge pressure), and then it enters the decomposition furnace after being preheated by the sleeve type heat exchanger. The decomposition furnace is composed of furnace chambers, electric heating elements, and insulation materials. The AQ50A ammonia decomposition furnace has two sets of furnace chambers, which are equipped with ammonia decomposition catalysts. The two sides of the furnace are electric heating wires, which uniformly increase the furnace temperature after being powered on. The temperature of the decomposition furnace is controlled between 800 and 850 ℃. Ammonia gas decomposes at high temperatures, and the high-temperature mixed gas after decomposition exchanges heat with low-temperature ammonia gas through a sleeve heat exchanger. After passing through a tubular water cooler, the temperature drops to near room temperature and can be used by users. If users have high requirements for the purity and dew point of the mixed gas, a purification device can be installed after the ammonia decomposition unit.
