Compact encoder for harsh environments

In cold-rolled steel mills, highly corrosive liquids are used during the rolling process, making it a very harsh environment. Even the encoder made of anodized aluminum has a lifespan of no more than one year here.

For a specific steel plant application, our customer requires a sturdy encoder with a hollow shaft size. The 700 series meets the specification requirements in addition to corrosion resistance. In order to provide a suitable solution, engineer Leine Linde designed a 700 series encoder made of stainless steel, which is more suitable for the harsh environment of cold rolling mills.

An important aspect that we must consider in this project is the weight increase caused by using stainless steel instead of aluminum. Encoder bearings must not only be able to withstand additional strain, but their performance must not decrease. On the customer side, engineers ensure that the dimensions of the motor shaft and motor bearings can withstand the increased weight. The open collaboration between Leine Linde and customer engineers makes these small but necessary adjustments easy to manage.

The result of this project is a 793 stainless steel encoder, which is a solution for applications that anodized aluminum cannot withstand. Like all 700 series encoders, the 793 is a robust and compact incremental encoder suitable for harsh environments.

The 793 stainless steel encoder can also be used for port cranes that are susceptible to saltwater erosion, in the chemical and food industries, mining, or steel plants.

The Leine Linde encoder is easy to install and integrate with your control system. For example, when installing new machines in an existing production environment and aiming to reduce downtime, this is crucial.

With the pre installed PROFINET cable, the PSE 993 encoder is easier to install than before. By measuring the length of PROFINET cables to meet the specific installation needs of one of our clients. Once the encoder is installed, there is no longer a need to perform any work on the machine shaft, and the other end of the cable can be plugged into the control system.

Encoder with GORE-TEX valve can be used in ultra humid environments

The ISA 698 encoder with GORE-TEX valve was originally developed for rock drills in the mining industry. The new GORE-TEX valve prevents moisture from accumulating inside the encoder. On the contrary, it can release moisture unidirectionally to keep the inside of the encoder dry and achieve operation.
