Overview
For many years, 3MA has been used for non-destructive testing and characterization of grinding burns. And it can also perform non-destructive testing on the relationship between the bearing capacity of bearings/gears affected by grinding and the hardness (Hd) and residual stress (RS) of the working surface. The 3MA gear scanner can scan tooth surfaces in curved surface scanning.

3MA has been used for non-destructive testing and characterization of grinding burns. The Fraunhofer IZFP Institute for Non Destructive Testing Technology in Germany has collaborated with industrial partners to develop 3MA of such applications. As part of a research project (FVA No. 453) conducted in collaboration with FZG, a research partner at the Technical University of Munich, the relationship between the load-bearing capacity of gears affected by grinding and the hardness (Hd) and residual stress (RS) of gear tooth surfaces was examined.
On the basis of 3MA technology, non-destructive testing was carried out on the gears, so the tooth surface load capacity and changes in tooth surface material properties of the tested gears can be systematically checked during operation testing. A specially modified and miniaturized 3MA probe has been developed and integrated into a multi axis control system. This comprehensive "3MA gear scanner" can scan tooth surfaces in curved surface scanning.
