Kugelrohr short-range distillation can still rapidly distill or sublime sensitive materials with low pauses and losses. The Kugelrohr thin film evaporator works by continuously rotating a distillation flask to create a thin film of test material on the inner surface of the heated flask. A large surface area film promotes rapid evaporation under mild conditions. After volatilization, the test material quickly solidifies in a collection bottle several inches away (usually submerged in a dry ice bath).
