*654SMO stainless steel rod $r $n654SMo (S32654) is a super austenitic stainless steel with a PRE value of up to 55. The nitrogen content in the steel is about 0.5%, which is almost the high solid solution nitrogen content of high chromium low manganese stainless steel under normal pressure.

This steel has excellent resistance to various types of corrosion and can replace iron nickel based or even nickel based corrosion-resistant alloys in many media. Therefore, there is no gap between stainless steel and high nickel corrosion-resistant alloys in terms of high resistance to pitting corrosion and high resistance to crevice corrosion.
Characteristics of 654 SMO
654 SMO solid solution has excellent plasticity, toughness, and strength properties higher than ordinary austenitic and 6% Mo austenitic stainless steels. Its mechanical properties can even be comparable to some nickel based corrosion-resistant alloys.

In the gas cooling medium of waste incineration plants, the corrosion resistance of 654 SMO is not only better than that of 254 SMO and super duplex stainless steel containing 6% Mo super austenitic stainless steel, but also better than Inconel 625, Hastelloy C276, Hastelloy C22 and titanium Gr2 nickel based corrosion-resistant alloys with high chromium and molybdenum.
Application of 654 SMO
654 SMO has high strength, excellent plasticity and toughness. In many highly corrosive media, its resistance to comprehensive corrosion and localized corrosion is not only superior to existing 6% Mo type super austenitic stainless steel and super duplex stainless steel, but also often close to or better than some specified high chromium, molybdenum nickel based corrosion-resistant alloys in terms of localized corrosion resistance. 654 SMO is commonly used in equipment, components, containers, heat exchangers, and pipelines for flue gas purification environments such as chemical, seawater, paper industry, and flue gas desulfurization (FGD).

654 SMO stainless steel is a super austenitic stainless steel containing 23% nickel, 25% chromium, and 7% molybdenum, with significantly better corrosion resistance than ordinary austenitic steel.
654SMO Super Austenitic Stainless Steel Smelting Method: The argon oxygen decarburization refining method (VOD or AOD) is currently popular abroad, and it can also be produced using the continuous casting method for stainless steel production. But because the amount of 654SMO steel used is much smaller than that of ordinary austenitic stainless steel, AOD or VOD refining furnaces are used for smelting (usually more than 20T per furnace), and the supplier is unwilling to increase inventory. Therefore, our company uses vacuum induction refining furnaces for steelmaking, combined with electric slag remelting refining, and then forging open billets to process round steel, forgings, flanges, etc.
