Exciting Review | Drug Safety Conference - Suzhou Station: Focusing on the Sealing of Drug Packaging

On March 28th, the "2025 Pharmaceutical Industry Quality Control Technology Conference (CPQC Suzhou Station)" was held under the guidance of the Food and Drug Industry Development and Supervision Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, jointly organized by the Beijing Pharmaceutical Industry Information Technology Center and the Beijing Zhongpei Science Inspection Information Technology Center. Sumspring Sanquan Zhongshi exhibited multiple testing instruments.

At the meeting, Professor Zhou, an expert in drug supervision and a senior national drug inspector, shared the interpretation of the best practices and best cases for compatibility and sealing that comply with domestic and international declarations. Drug packaging is not only the "outer layer" of drugs, but also an important component in ensuring the quality, safety, and effectiveness of drugs. Suitable packaging materials need to have good compatibility with drugs to avoid the migration of harmful substances (such as plasticizers, metal ions, etc.) or the adsorption of drug components, thereby affecting the safety and effectiveness of drugs.

For highly sensitive drugs such as biologics, injections, and ophthalmic preparations, trace migration substances (such as plasticizers and antioxidants) or sealing defects (such as microbial invasion and gas permeation) may cause serious safety issues. Compatibility and sealing studies can identify and control such risks, avoiding drug contamination or failure caused by packaging issues. Therefore, the study of compatibility and sealing of drug packaging materials is not only a mandatory requirement for regulatory compliance, but also a scientific means to prevent drug quality problems before they occur. It is also a key step for pharmaceutical companies to fulfill their quality commitments.
