BPC 20 Years Review: A Journey from the Laboratory to the Global Stage

On the occasion of BPC Instruments' 20th anniversary celebration, we reviewed with Chairman Gustaf Olsson the global development process that started from the laboratory at Lund University in Sweden and has now covered 80 countries. Gustaf has been deeply involved since the start-up stage. As a co supervisor of Dr. LIU JING during his doctoral studies at Lund University, he witnessed the company's growth and development in the intersection of biotechnology, sensor technology, and automation technology.

Gustaf recalled, "The anaerobic digestion process was once considered extremely difficult to control. Due to the lack of reliable measurement tools, most factory operators could only significantly reduce the operating load of the digestion tank to a level far below the design capacity to avoid malfunctions. This demand gave rise to innovative ideas and gave birth to a truly significant enterprise in 2005. Bioprocess Control (later renamed BPC Instruments) was established with a clear mission: to promote the development of gas flow measurement technology towards greater precision, efficiency, and ease of use.

In 2014, Dr. LIU JING took over as CEO and led the company to embark on a new chapter: successfully completing its IPO financing, renaming Bioprocess Control to BPC Instruments, and expanding its global market. At the same time, the application of products in the field of scientific research continues to accelerate. So far, BPC instruments have been cited in over 1000 peer-reviewed papers, confirming their value as reliable tools in scientific research and industrial fields. At present, the company is preparing for its next important milestone: moving into a new production base located in Hasslanda, Lund, which is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026. The new headquarters will expand production scale, enhance service capabilities, and accelerate internal innovation.
