Merck expands its Life Science Technology and Training Cooperation Center located in Shanghai

On March 26, 2024, Shanghai, China - Merck announced its Merck Life Sciences China Technology and Training Cooperation Center (M Lab) located in Shanghai ™ The expansion of the Collaboration Center has been successfully completed. The additional investment of 14 million euros has added a brand new biological application laboratory, process development training center, and upstream application laboratory to the existing center.

Our expansion of Merck Life Sciences China Technology and Training Cooperation Center in Shanghai aims to provide more capabilities, customized solutions, and services to support biopharmaceutical and formulation companies in developing better production methods, thereby saving time and costs and accelerating the launch of life-saving therapies.

Merck Life Science Technology and Training Cooperation Center is located in Zhangjiang Science City, Pudong, at the core of Shanghai's biopharmaceutical industry research cluster, providing tailored solutions for China's life science industry and assisting drug development. The center includes laboratories for pilot testing and process development. Biopharmaceutical companies and startups can explore and learn innovative technologies, and collaborate with Merck scientists and engineers to solve key challenges in process development and production. Enterprise customers can personally participate in product demonstrations, biotechnology training courses and practices on operating standards, and apply advanced process technologies and methods for pharmaceutical development, optimization, and scaling up production.

With the completion of the expansion of the center,Merck will provide the following additional facilities and services to its customers in China:

1Biological Application Laboratory:

The laboratory facilities include a biochemistry and molecular biology laboratory, a cell biology laboratory, and two biosafety levelsThe BSL-2 laboratory provides various functions, including molecular cloning, cell culture, protein production and detection, as well as adenovirus assembly, to provide antibody development, production, and immunoassay services for biopharmaceutical and scientific research clients.

2Process Development Training Center:

The center includes two training classrooms, an upstream laboratory, a downstream laboratory, and a pilot laboratory, aiming to provide a variety of high-quality training courses for personnel in industries and academia such as biotechnology companies, pharmaceutical companies, regulatory agencies, universities, etc. Its content covers process development, new technologies and methodsGMP and regulatory requirements, as well as practical operational skills, can provide the biopharmaceutical industry with theoretical and practical content for the development, scaling up, and implementation of the entire process from upstream cell culture to downstream separation and purification, and synchronize with the global market.

3Upstream Application Laboratory:

This laboratory has aBSL-2 laboratory and an analytical laboratory provide advanced technical support for the new treatment and vaccine industry. From cell line development to customized cell culture media, we use cell culture and analysis platforms to help customers optimize their upstream process flow and provide complete process solutions.

4Merck Life Sciences Shanghai Technology Application and Testing Center:
