Multi functional analysis of infrared ellipsometer
Date: 2025-11-13Read: 1

Infrared ellipsometer analyzes the optical properties of samples through the interaction between reflected light and material surfaces. Under the illumination of an infrared light source, the polarization state of light will change when reflected on the surface of a material. By measuring the polarization information of the reflected light, an ellipsometer can calculate physical parameters such as refractive index, absorption coefficient, and thickness of the material. Compared with traditional optical measurement techniques, it has higher sensitivity and can detect small changes on the surface or even subsurface of materials.

The multifunctionality of infrared ellipsometer is reflected in its ability to meet the needs of different fields and perform various physical quantity measurements and analyses. The following are the multifunctionality in different applications:
1. Multi angle measurement function
Usually equipped with multi angle measurement function. This means that users can measure the reflection characteristics of materials from all angles by adjusting the incident angle, thereby obtaining more comprehensive optical parameters. This is of great significance for studying optical thin films, multilayer film structures, surface roughness, and so on.
2. Wide band light source support
Usually equipped with a wideband light source, it can cover multiple bands from near-infrared to far-infrared. This enables the infrared ellipsometer to perform multi wavelength analysis, test the optical properties of samples at different wavelengths, and adapt to the needs of different materials. For example, some materials may exhibit different optical behaviors at different wavelengths, which can provide detailed analysis and help researchers obtain more accurate optical data.
3. High precision thickness measurement
It can provide high accuracy when measuring the thickness of thin films. By analyzing the phase and amplitude changes of reflected light, ellipsometers can accurately measure the thickness of thin films non destructively, and even measure extremely thin nanoscale films. This is of great significance for fields such as semiconductor manufacturing, optical coatings, and solar cells.
4. High sensitivity surface analysis
High sensitivity enables surface analysis in a small range, even detecting surface micro defects, oxide layers, interface layers, etc. This is very important for material surface quality control, film uniformity testing, and other related work. In some high-precision manufacturing fields such as microelectronics, optoelectronics, etc., the surface analysis function of ellipsometer can provide key quality control data.
5. Non destructive testing
It has the advantage of non-destructive testing. This means that ellipsometers can measure without damaging the sample, making them particularly suitable for valuable materials, thin film samples, or samples that cannot be directly cut in actual production environments.
6. Real time data analysis and feedback
Usually equipped with advanced software platforms that can display and analyze data in real-time, and even support real-time feedback and adjustment of data. This is very important for scenarios that require quick decision-making, such as quality control and material research and development on the production line. Through real-time analysis of data, researchers can promptly identify problems and make adjustments, improving efficiency and accuracy.
Infrared ellipsometer has become an important tool in modern scientific research and industrial applications due to its high precision and versatility. From surface analysis of materials to structural research of multi-layer thin films, from high-precision thickness measurement to non-destructive testing, it provides strong technical support for various industries.
