Precautions in High Temperature Dielectric Thermography Testing
Date: 2025-07-16Read: 3
High temperature dielectric temperature spectrum testing is an important method for studying the temperature dependent dielectric properties of materials in high-temperature environments. Its working principle is based on the fundamental theories of electromagnetics and dielectric physics.
When an alternating electric field of a certain frequency is applied to the tested material, polarization phenomena occur inside the material. Under the action of an electric field, the charges in the material will undergo displacement, forming electric dipole moments or space charge polarization. These polarization processes will cause the material to exhibit capacitance and loss characteristics. In high-temperature dielectric temperature spectrum testing, the dielectric temperature spectrum of the material is obtained by changing the temperature and simultaneously measuring the dielectric parameters such as capacitance and loss tangent of the material at different temperatures.
Specifically, the testing system generates an alternating electric field, typically provided by a signal generator with an electrical signal of a specific frequency. This electric field acts on the tested material sample, and due to the polarization response of the material, induced charges are generated at both ends of the sample, thereby forming a capacitive effect. Meanwhile, during the process of electric field changes, due to energy losses within the material, such as conductivity losses and polarization hysteresis losses, the parameter of loss tangent will be exhibited. Through accurate measurement circuits, dielectric parameters such as capacitance and loss tangent of samples at different temperatures can be measured, and these data can be recorded and plotted as curves of dielectric constant and loss tangent with temperature, namely high-temperature dielectric temperature spectrum.
Precautions for High Temperature Dielectric Thermography Testing:
1. Environmental requirements:
-Ensure that the system is in an environment that meets its technical specifications, with stable temperature and humidity, and avoid use in environments that are too cold, too hot, or too humid.
-Keep the area around the system clean and prevent dust and debris from entering the interior of the equipment.
-Place the system away from strong magnetic fields, strong electric fields, and high vibrations to prevent interference with the test results.
2. Safe operation:
-Operators should be familiar with the system's usage methods and safety operating procedures, and undergo professional training before operating.
-Before use, carefully check whether the power supply, wiring, and equipment connections are secure, and whether there is any damage or aging.
-During the testing process, it is strictly prohibited to touch the heating components of the testing instrument at will, as these components have high temperatures in ultra-high temperature environments, which can easily cause burns.
-If equipment failure or abnormal situation occurs, the power should be immediately cut off and professional personnel should be contacted for maintenance. Do not disassemble or repair the equipment without authorization.
3. Sample preparation:
-The sample should meet the testing requirements of the system, and avoid using samples that are too large, too heavy, or do not meet specifications to avoid affecting the test results or damaging the testing fixture.
-Before testing, the sample should be cleaned and dried as necessary to eliminate surface contamination and moisture.
-Place the sample in a fixed position on the tester and ensure good contact with the test electrode to avoid gaps or poor contact between the sample and electrode.
4. Line connection:
-Before testing, carefully check whether the power and signal lines of the system are connected correctly and whether there are any short circuits or open circuits.
-Ensure that the connection between the test electrode and the sample is firm and reliable, avoiding detachment or poor contact during the testing process.
-When connecting lines, be careful to avoid crossing and interference between lines, and try to separate the power and signal lines as much as possible.
5. Operation process:
-According to the properties and requirements of the sample, set appropriate testing parameters such as temperature range, testing frequency, heating rate, etc. before testing.
-During the testing process, closely monitor the working status of the system and changes in test data. If any abnormalities are found, the testing parameters should be adjusted or the testing should be stopped in a timely manner for troubleshooting.
-Timely record the data and related information during the testing process for subsequent analysis and processing.
-After the test is completed, turn off the system power and clean the testing site to keep the equipment clean.
