1、 Clean gas: from industrial by-products to high-value energy


Clean gas refers to the desorption gas produced by the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) hydrogen purification process of coke oven gas. As a byproduct of the coking process, coke oven gas originally consists of hydrogen (H2, content 54-59%), methane (CH4, content 25-27%), carbon monoxide (CO), carbon dioxide (CO ₂), and a small amount of light hydrocarbons. In industrial applications, due to its low calorific value and high content of dust, tar, and sulfur, the combustion efficiency is poor, and the high value-added hydrogen components have not been properly recovered and utilized.

Since Baosteel Group introduced the pressure swing adsorption (PSA) hydrogen purification technology in 1985, this process has gradually become the mainstream technology for hydrogen production from coke oven gas due to its advantages of low energy consumption, simple process, high degree of automation, and high hydrogen recovery rate. In the PSA hydrogen extraction process, the desorption gas generated during the reverse release and flushing stages undergoes multiple processes such as pretreatment, purification, and adsorption, resulting in a significant reduction in impurity content. The methane concentration can be increased to over 40-50%, and the calorific value can be increased by about 30%, thus forming a clean gas that can be directly utilized, especially suitable for existing coke oven gas users.

Since 2012, Sifang Instrument has relied on its parent company (Sifang Optoelectronics Co., Ltd.)'s core gas sensing technology platform to lead the national major scientific instrument equipment development project "Research and Application of Laser Raman Spectroscopy Gas Analysis Instruments". 4、 What are the advantages of non dispersive infrared spectroscopy and laser Raman spectroscopy compared to gas chromatography?

At present, the technologies that can simultaneously analyze gas composition and calorific value mainly include gas chromatography, laser Raman spectroscopy, and non dispersive infrared spectroscopy (NDIR).
