Briefly describe the regular maintenance methods for rheological crucibles

In the fields of high-temperature material testing, metallurgical analysis, and ceramic sintering, rheological crucibles are the core containers for carrying environmental experiments. It not only comes into direct contact with high-temperature melt, but also needs to withstand severe thermal shock and chemical erosion. The condition of the rheological crucible directly affects the accuracy of experimental data and equipment safety. Regular maintenance and upkeep of the scientific system are crucial, as they are the cornerstone for extending its lifespan and ensuring successful experiments.


1、 Clean immediately after use: prevent residual corrosion
After each experiment, allow the crucible to cool naturally to a safe temperature (rapid cooling is strictly prohibited) and remove any internal residues. For oxides or metal slag, a non-metallic scraper can be used to gently remove them to avoid scratching the inner wall. Do not use water to rapidly cool high-temperature crucibles to prevent thermal shock and cracking. Long term accumulation of residues can alter the material properties of the crucible, causing local overheating or sample contamination.
2、 Appearance inspection: insight into potential damage
Regularly conduct visual inspections, focusing on whether there are cracks, bulges, peeling, or severe discoloration on the inner wall. Pay special attention to the transition area between the bottom and side walls, where stress is concentrated and micro cracks are prone to occur. Once structural damage is found, it should be stopped immediately to prevent safety accidents caused by rupture at high temperatures.
3、 Cleaning and drying: eliminating sources of pollution
Use a soft bristled brush or compressed air to remove surface dust. If deep cleaning is required, it can be soaked in dilute acid (such as 10% nitric acid) for a short period of time (to confirm the acid resistance of the crucible material), then thoroughly rinsed with deionized water and dried in a 100-120 ℃ oven. A damp crucible may cause steam explosion or thermal shock at high temperatures.
4、 Reasonable storage: avoid physical and environmental damage
The crucible should be stored in a dry and dust-free dedicated cabinet, with a soft cushion at the bottom to prevent collision. Avoid mixing with other metal tools to prevent scratching by hard objects. Quartz crucibles should be stored away from light to prevent long-term exposure to ultraviolet radiation from causing crystal embrittlement.
5、 Thermal cycle management: slowing down the aging process
Follow the principle of "slow temperature rise and fall" to avoid exceeding the rated maximum operating temperature. It is recommended to control the heating rate at 5-10 ℃/min and cool down with the furnace during cooling. Frequent rapid cooling and heating can accelerate material fatigue and shorten its service life.
