The operation process of the salt spray test chamber mainly includes preparation before the test, test setup, placement of samples, start of the test, observation and recording of the test, end of the test and subsequent processing. The following are the specific steps:
Preparation before the experiment:
Equipment inspection: Check whether the salt spray test chamber and its accessories are intact, whether the connections are firm, and ensure that the equipment is in working condition.
Solution preparation: Typically, a 5% sodium chloride (NaCl) solution is used as the test medium. Take an appropriate amount of pure distilled water from a measuring cup, add industrial salt sodium chloride, stir evenly, and ensure that the solution concentration meets the standard. For the Copper Accelerated Acetic Acid Salt Spray Test (CASS Test), copper chloride and glacial acetic acid need to be added to adjust the pH value of the solution.
Add water and salt: Add an appropriate amount of distilled water to the water tank in the test chamber. Pour the prepared saltwater solution into the saltwater tank inside the test chamber.
Sample preparation: Prepare the sample according to relevant standards, ensuring that its size, shape, and surface treatment meet the requirements. The surface should be clean, free of oil stains, and without temporary protective layers.
Experimental setup:
Adjust temperature and humidity: Set the temperature and humidity inside the test chamber according to the test requirements. In general, the test temperature is set at 35 ℃ and the humidity is close to saturation (about 95% RH). For the neutral salt spray test, the box temperature is generally set at 35 ℃, and the saturation tank temperature is set at 47 ℃.
Preheating test chamber: Start the test chamber, preheat it to the set temperature and maintain it for a period of time to ensure the stability of the temperature and humidity inside the test chamber.
Placement of samples: Place the prepared samples on the sample rack inside the test chamber, adjust the angle and spacing of the samples according to the test requirements, and avoid mutual interference between the samples.
Start the experiment:
Start spray: open the spray system of the salt spray test chamber, adjust the spray pressure to an appropriate range (such as 0.07~0.17MPa), and ensure that the spray evenly covers the sample surface. According to the experimental requirements, select manual or automatic spray mode.
Set time: Set the test time according to the test requirements, usually ranging from several hours to thousands of hours. Start the timer, start timing.
Experimental observation and recording: During the experimental process, regularly observe the changes in the sample, such as corrosion, detachment, discoloration, etc., and record relevant data. Simultaneously monitor the temperature, humidity, and other environmental conditions inside the test chamber to ensure the stability of the test conditions.
End of experiment and subsequent processing:
Stop the test: when the test time is up, stop the spray system and turn off the power supply of the test chamber.
Sample removal: Gently remove the sample to avoid damage. Gently wash off the salt deposits on the surface of the sample with running water, and then rinse in distilled water. The washing water temperature should not exceed the set temperature.
Sample evaluation: Evaluate the corrosion level of the sample according to the test standards and record the test results.
Equipment cleaning and maintenance: After the test is completed, promptly clean the saltwater tank, sample rack, and other components inside the test chamber to prevent saltwater residue from damaging the equipment.
