The oil absorption value of carbon black, also known as DBP value, refers to the volume (cm3) of dibutyl phthalate (DBP) absorbed by 100g of carbon black under specified experimental conditions. Used to characterize the degree of aggregation of carbon black. When carbon black is used as a rubber filler, the degree of particle aggregation affects the performance of carbon black vulcanized rubber. When used in conjunction with surface area or particle size indicators, DBP values have great value. Completely different grades of carbon black can have very similar DBP values. DBP can be used to predict certain compound properties when comparing carbon black with similar surface areas.
